What music do you guys like?/listening to now?
hooooo boy
do you know what a can of worms you've just opened? OK lets see how I can answer this without going on for pages and pages.
My first big band I really loved (and possibly my all-time favorite) was the Smashing Pumpkins. Favorite classic rock is The Doors and Jimi Hendrix (especially Electric Ladyland). Current favorite is Sigur Ros. Back when I was going through deep deep depression I listened to a lot of NIN, Marilyn Manson and Rammstein, but those bands remind me of those feelings too much nowadays for me to lisen to them. Queens of the Stone Age is also a huge favorite of mine, I don't think I'm exaggterating when I say that I listened to Songs for the Deaf about 50 times.
and now a list of every artist in my iPod (with comments whenever I can't restrain myself )
100 Classical Masterpieces (I don't know nearly enough about classical as I'd like to, but I do enjoy it as background noise sometimes)
A Perfect Circle (I only really like Thirteenth Step)
AFI
Aphex Twin
Audioslave (I don't know why they're still in here)
The Beatles
Billy Corgan (solo)
Billy Joel
Bob Dylan
Bob Marley
Coldplay
The Doors
Eric Clapton
Foo Fighters
Fountains of Wayne
Franz Ferdinand
Gladiator soundtrack
In Flames (haven't listened to them too much, don't take this as a recommendation)
Incubus
James Iha (I haven't actually been able to get through the whole solo album)
Jet (Not really sure why this is still on here either)
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Chamberlin Complex (Life Begins Again is the best album I've heard this summer)
The Killers (theres more to them than just their singles....)
Kyuss (roots of QotSA and pretty good in their own right)
The Mars Volta (gotten good reviews, but seems like just pretentious wankery to me... but then I have trouble listening to lyrics like 'will they feed us the womb?' nowadays)
Melissa Auf Der Maur (not sure why this is still on here either)
Metallica
Muse
My Chemical Romance
Pink Floyd
Pixies (hated them at first, but they've grown on me)
Queens of the Stone Age
Radiohead
The Rolling Stones
Ry Cooder (pretty much dl'ed it cos the cover looked cool sounds okay to me)
Santana
Sigur Ros
The Smashing Pumpkins
Soilwork
Themes (from Seinfeld and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show )
U2
The Vines (I actually heard about AS from reading about their singer!)
The White Stripes
Terribly sorry about having cluttering up this thread with such a huge post

Possibly. I also like Wagner. And loads of other bands.

I didn't want to go through my whole music collection, but on a whim I'd reinstalled Grand Theft Auto onto my computer and put some of my own files into the MP3 player station. I think it's a pretty good cross-section of music I like:
The Clash - Complete Control (Live 1981)
The Black Crowes - Twice As Hard
McLusky - Lightsabre C*****cking Blues
Beck - Que Onda Guero
The Black Keys - 10 A.M. Automatic
Neil Young - Piece Of Crap
22-20s - Devil In Me
DJ Danger Mouse - 99 Problems (Jay-Z w/ The Beatles)
Andrew W. K. - Party Hard
Tin Machine - Baby Universal
The Beastie Boys - Ch-Check It Out
Cake - Comfort Eagle
David Bowie - Watch That Man (Live 1973)
The Hives - Declare Guerre Nucleare
Nikki Sudden - Looking For A Friend
Dinosaur Jr. - I've Been Waiting For You
OutKast - B.O.B.
The Rolling Stones - Jumping Jack Flash
The White Stripes - Blue Orchid
Sonic Youth - Eric's Trip
The Stooges - Search And Destroy
Pete Townshend - Face The Face
Iron Maiden - Prowler
The Greenhornes - Shadow Of Grief
The Sex Pistols - Holiday In The Sun
Soledad Brothers - Michigan Line
Leans towards the harder stuff there (it just wouldn't be vehicular homicide without driving music!), but that's a pretty representative cross-section of what I listen to.
Lots of eclectic taste in this thread, it's cool to see!
I enjoy music a lot. My wife and I have a collection of around 1000 CDs. I'm not going to name all of the artists from that list, but here are my choices:
Jah Wobble (Probably my favorite)
Lisa Gerrard (! !!) (Obviously Dead Can Dance goes along with this)
One Dove / Dot Allison
Peter Gabriel
Kate Bush
Talking Heads / David Byrne
Jem
Black Tape for a Blue Girl
Switchblade Symphony
Loreena McKennitt
Tori Amos
Sarah McLachlan
L7
The Ditty Bops
Rachel's (Yes, that is a singular possessive. Their music is described as "Garage Classical")
Bond (My dirty little secret. Their music is just a lot of fun.)
Cake Like
Los Lobos
Cranes
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Einstuerzende Neubauten
Moby
My current musical obsession seems to be the song "Falling from Grace" by The Gentle Waves. The Gentle Waves is actually Isobel Campbell, who sometimes plays cello for Belle & Sebastian.
I looked forever for some copy of the Caucasian Sketches by Mikhial Ippolitov-Ivanov, but in all my years could only find one. Ippolitov-Ivanov was a composer for the Soviet Union State in the early 20th Centruy, and his music certianly has a certain Soviet style. It's really cool.

Linkin Park

I you haven't already, you should look up Nightwish, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Rammstein. I don't like much metal. Some Godsmack songs are OK, but I can't get over the name. And I just haven't bothered looking up Korn, not like I could listen to it with my brother.
