Throughout history, those seeking power and dominance have conspired to gain it and to take unfair advantage of others. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, but most people (at least in my country) do not understand that. People don't seem to comprehend that Hitler, and Stalin, and Mao, and Pinochet were real people, not just out of some fairy tale. Evil people exist, and they seek to exert influence and gain power. The fact that these people did not ultimately succeed, does not mean that no one else would ever try to do such a thing again. Someone who claims to reject conspiracy theories, or insists that all conspiracy theories must be false, is a delusional fool. As an example, look at 9/11. The mass media constantly derides "conspiracy theories" about 9/11 without mentioning that their own explanation is also a conspiracy theory! The only difference is who one believes the conspirators to be- Arab Muslims, or corrupt individuals within the government. So, regardless of whether you think Arabs or the government were responsible for 9/11, you are a conspiracy theorist. There is no rational explanation for the events of that day that does not incorporate some conspiracy or another. But most proles of my native Oceania, not understanding what the term "conspiracy theory" means, simply use it as a synonym for thoughtcrime, or doubleplusungoodthinkful. I once had someone tell me that she didn't believe the CIA killed JFK, because that was a conspiracy theory. She instead believed the mafia did it. STILL a conspiracy theory, just a different one! It happens to be more goodthinkful, because it does not implicate Party members, but it is still a conspircay theory.

We are at war with Al-Qaeda and at peace with Russia... we have always been at war with Al-Qaeda and at peace with Russia... Any agent of Goldstein who denies these truths must be vaporised!

Hm, didn't you Canadians just have an SPP summit at which the US military basically shut down Montebello to preserve secrecy for the meeting?
In regards to our brainwashing, it is thorugh the telescreen. And also through our wonderful public education system. In reference to our public education system, it should be noted that, although we were compelled to study from inferior and outdated textbooks, we were able to afford scores and scores of cameras. Last spring, just on my way in to my first class, I was recorded on no less than 23 cameras! And I could very easily have missed a couple more along the way. We are surrounded by cameras, our history classes (and texts) are a joke, and I am not looking forward to next years AP Government class! The teacher is a goodthinkful blackwhite Outer Party member, and a complete neocon duckspeacker.
Incidentally, if you look at my signature... you can find all three slogans, in a disguised form, in modern political rhetoric. We invaded Iraq to bring peace and security to the poeple after years of violence and cruelty under Saddam... WAR IS PEACE.
We must consent to the monitoring of our every move, surrender all privacy, submit to the will of thug cops, in order to defend freedom and "democracy." SLAVERY IS FREEDOM (O'brien noted specifically that this slogan can go either way).
We must not seek out information contrary to what is given out in the mass media, we must not delve too deeply into the truth of historical events (how many Americans know that W's grandaddy tried to stage a coup against FDR and remake America by the example of Hitler and Mussoloini?) IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH... or rather, the ignorance of the people is strength for the rulers.
I will not go on at any more length about the immense historical truth contained in both 1984 and Animal Farm (which is NOT just about the Commies in Russia) because if I did, I would still be typing several years from now. Just understand that there is nothing in either of these books that has not come to pass. George Orwell did not write fiction.

This thread rules, glad all the smart people joined in.

NeantHumain- I've never heard of slashdot actually.

So is there anything that can be done to wake up the masses? I usually start by showing them WTC 7 collapsing. After a few weeks have passed, and the information has had time to sink in, I ask if they have any questions about the story that was essentially programmed into their brain.

It is such a paradigm shift for people, it is painful to open your eyes to reality. Is it even possible to wake enough of the sheeple so that there might be change?

Would you agree that throughout history there have always been people or groups who have tried to gain power and wealth at the expense of all other people? We have fought several wars over exactly this in the last century. So if we can agree that this has happened throughout human history, and it has also happed several times in modern history, do you really believe that it has simply stopped occurring? Did humans and their thirst for power and wealth suddenly change in the last 50-100 years?

I suggest that since it is no longer possible for any country to militarily take land, wealth and power people now use other less obvious techniques.

Do you understand fiat money? Do you understand inflation? Do you know that the federal reserve is neither federal nor does it contain any reserves? Do you understand how money is created?

If you, like most people, don't understand these things then you are blind to the fact that people currently conspire to take your wealth from you. And who is it that is involved in this conspiracy? Well there is the congress and the federal reserve, a private consortium of banks, and you are not allowed to know who actually owns the federal reserve. This private institution actually makes a profit of 6% on the money it creates out of thin air.

Many people believe the real reason JFK was killed was because he planned to do away with the federal reserve.
Do you actually believe a lone gunman with a bolt action rifle killed the president? If not you are acknowledging a massive conspiracy that killed arguably the most powerful man in the world.

I actually find it laughable when people say conspiracies don't exist. To make that statement you must not understand human nature or human history.

Santabarbarian, I want to apologise for taking your discussion too lightly... my lame attempt at humour. I agree with many of your concerns. I cannot understand how the 'masses' keep returning `so called' strong leaders term after term. Our only hope for democracy is to get people to think about what really happens in government, as opposed to what we are fed.
