I'm feeling the "ass burgers" problem too....

I have to admit, when a friend brought it to our attention it was at a party - and didn't everyone break out in a big laugh attack. Luckily our friend is easy going and didn't loose her temper.

Now when I tell people about my son it's "he's got WHAT???"

Autistic psychopaths? Woo-hoo!! Sounds waaayy cooler! Anyway, I always pronounced it "Azz-PERjers" because I know what people will say if I pronounce it "ass-burgers" or, for that matter, "ass-purgers". And I really don't want to hear it.

Giving a pronounication of As-per-ers which would be very easier to say.

I think that's harder to say.

Autistic Psychopathy sounds like a scary term. Better that it is described as Asperger Syndrome. I don't like alternate names for medical conditions. I don't like the term "mongoloid" for Down Syndrome or "spastic" used for cerebral palsy.

When I first got on here, I thought Aspies sounded like snakes in the grass. But know I am embracing my reptilian side and am proud of what I am. Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Easier said than done, however. Aspergers is OK for me.

Bridge, we don't need no confounded bridge! Led Zep!

Absolutely, we need a new name.

It's an outrage that a condition whose primary manifestation is to rob a person of dignity has a name that makes the problem worse.

It could easily have been called Wing's Syndrome, as Lorna Wing did a lot of the research into what we call Asperger's. It was Lorna Wing who named the syndrome after Hans Asperger (rather than after herself).

I wouldn't have had a problem with Wing's Syndrome, neither do I have a problem with Asperger's Syndrome.

How about "Autism Lite?" :D But seriously, what's in a name? They can call us Ass-Burger's, Autistic, nerds or geeks, but we are who we are and the labels we are given (or that we we give ourselves) will not change that.
