jjstar, you can't make an assumption just because the abbreviation of a word is in another word. Like ASsasin, or narcissist, they're just coincidences, two little letters that happen to be in a word.

First you said that AS was caused by mercury poisoning, now you're a separate species? Don't you think they run DNA tests on people with AS? Don't you think they'd notice if you weren't the same species as an NT? Let's not start a social division between those with AS and those without, that's how genocide starts.

The initials are not random - Etymology - spelling of the German word Thal, meaning "valley or dale", was changed to Tal in 1901, but the former spelling is often retained in English and always in scientific names, while the modern spelling is used in German. The Neanderthal or "Neander Valley" was named after theologian Joachim Neander, who lived nearby in Düsseldorf in the late seventeenth century. Wikipedia.

As for mercury poisoning - http://www.autism.com/triggers/vaccine/mercury.htm - each person can investigate and decide for themselves.

I think that might have been a joke, actually. I'm sure she's not suggesting that there's any significance to the fact that Neanderthal contains "n" and "t".

Otherwise, you could look at the fact that the abbreviation for "arsenic" in the periodic table is "As"- uh-oh, I guess Aspies are poison to society at large! Here's the proof!

Anyway, the page suggests that Aspies originate from Neanderthals, not NTs.

Well, I see your point, but I'd rather give her the benefit of the doubt.

I read that about three times. Good book. Shame about the sequels.

Ugh! Hear, hear! The first book turned our expectations about culture and language upside down and took a fascinating look at what might have been. The later books were full of porn and corny dialogue.

I couldnt get it out of my mind that she would have had the hairiest legs ever!

It would make sense to remember the fact that the Neanderthals existed longer than we have. Homo Sapiens of the time were tolerant of them, no reason we shouldn't be. Who's to say a Neanderthal raised in the modern world would be of less than average intelligence, if given the proper resources? If you want to make fun of someone, make fun of baboons. They sure are ugly.

Under daily threat of becoming dinner, sure they were *tolerant*.

Just to clarify, that page was saying that *Aspies* are descendants of Neanderthals, not NTs. rdos believes that NTs are Homo sapiens sapiens, while Aspies are Neanderthals.
