How am I making fun of anyone? You quoted me but there is no joke, insult or anything there that is making fun.

So, you are insulted that I don't like BlueMax's comment? It's good that he doesn't want to be compared to "handicapped" people? That doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

No, I put in bold what was insulting. If you didn't like Blue Max's comment then direct it at him rather than saying after watching you tube members on this board that nobody has room to talk. That sounds insulting to me and people come here to feel at ease rather than the usual being picked on for their odd mannerisms or how they dress or look.

Don't pick on everyone else on this forum for one person's comment.

If I misread what you wrote or you didn't mean it in that way, then no offense taken.

Jeeze Louise. Makes me wish I could reel this whole thread back in: First the gratuitous cynicism of Spokane "clinical evidence of autism, plz." Girl; now an avalanche of personal attacks back and forth. Sheesh.

Last time I'll post a heart-warming video.

I know what you mean. I got totally misunderstood by some people with some very sensitive spots about autism and things went downhill from there.

I think my mistake was putting "autism" and "handicapped" in the same sentence. I can see where hurting people could get upset over that one... but what else would you call it, really? Special? Disabled? Challenged? Mincing words.... but then where's the line between "able to function" and "not able"...? What a can of worms I've opened.

How can I put my original point as clear as possible so people can patch their wounds and relax a bit...?

Can it be agreed that one look at the fellow in the video and it's fairly obvious he has some kind of "condition" (whatever it may be)...
Can it be agreed that someone with AS is NOT immediately recognized as having any "conditions" until a few failed attempts at certain communication?
Can it be agreed that it can be frustrating to gain understanding for AS when people expect some type of "autistic" display (as seen in the young fellow in the video) and dismiss your claims because you don't have those type of conditions?
You see where I'm trying to go with this???

It wasn't meant to insult anyone, no matter how sensitive they may be to negativity related to autism. (And I sure hope noone is offended yet again!)

It's a tough world we live in, and unforgiving for anyone with a difference of any kind. Now can we stop fighting and get back to supporting each other? ;)

Gosh, you're right: I haven't seen his medical records. Should I delete my post?

Yeah, that sarcasm was really justified. I mean, it says autistic right there in the thread title! What more proof could you need?

Anyway, the video was awesome. Made my chest all warm and such. :)

Excuse me, all I did was asked a curious question. I clicked on the video twice and it took me to the website and I didn't see the word anywhere so I asked the poster of the thread how he knows? Did he hear about it somewhere? Was he told, was it on the news and they mentioned the word, or was he just judging based on the way he talks?

It wasn't meant as a personal attack. It was just a curious question.

Would you rather have me jump to a conclusion by assuming you were being judgmental instead of asking you first how you knew?
I don't like to make assumptions of people without even knowing the answer first so I always ask first. Didn't know you take it so personal.

Uh, maybe he watched the news, or read the youtube video description.

There was no 'autism' typed anywhere in the video or in the description.
I don't go around labeling people assuming what they have.

If you were truly curious, and had yourself one o' them interweb thingies, you coulda googled "autistic, fenway, anthem", and personally inspected the more than 800 hits that'd get you.

Excuse me for not even thinking of it. Does it hurt to even answer a curious question? I have no problems with it. I'd rather be understood than misunderstood. I'd rather have people ask me questions instead of assuming and being wrong about me. I hate that. I'd rather have people ask me questions than accusing me of something so I don't do it to others. I ask first instead of assuming and think I'm right.

Cloudy and cold out. We're expecting snow today or tomorrow. I'm surprised.

Kitsy and BlueMax, I was pretty clear that I was directing my comments at people who agree with BlueMax. That was the subject, of course that would be what I was discussing. Again, the bolded quote of mine doesn't contain any insult. Blue Max, you said you didn't want to be lumped in with someone who "'seems' handicapped", that is what I quoted and what I feel TheZach was addressing. So, I don't know why you would "wonder" what's wrong with your comments.

Quote:
Can it be agreed that someone with AS is NOT immediately recognized as having any "conditions" until a few failed attempts at certain communication?
Can it be agreed that it can be frustrating to gain understanding for AS when people expect some type of "autistic" display (as seen in the young fellow in the video) and dismiss your claims because you don't have those type of conditions?
You see where I'm trying to go with this???

This is why I made reference to "seeing videos, photos, and read posts" of people here. I don't see a difference between us and him. AS is in the DSM-IV because it's seen as a disability, a disorder. The man in the video had a flat tone and nervous laugh. Those can definitely be autistic traits, if we're solely going by the video. So, it doesn't really make sense to elevate oneself and say, "I'm not like that!"

If you were really trying to say that you're frustrated by others not realizing you're handicapped, I can understand that point. The truth is, that's the problem with autism awareness. There is not enough realistic information out there. How many Hollywood movies are out there that are overtly about autism and Asperger's? Three? (Rain Man, Snow Cake and Mozart and the Whale) and two of those are obscure. People generalize about all sorts of stuff they don't understand. And that's their problem of ignorance.

But please understand that your original statement and the ones that people on this thread were defending is quite different from the above quote.

Uncle Beer, I'm sorry if you're seeing my post as inflammatory too. I mean to defend the video, it is heart-warming.
