Anyways/anyway

While/whilst (I know this doesn't make much difference any more, but it still annoys me.)

I could say te same about you brits wit YOUR spelling! colour? honour? aluminium? You even pronounce aluminum wrong! I nearly fainted when I figured what they were trying to say on the avengers(A show staring patrick magnee and Diana Rigg, two brits, in te 1960s)! 8O

Of course, I am joking, but perhaps 99% of American grammar(REAL Grammar) IS identical to british. Let's stick with that. BTW We got the U.S. measurements from the brits ALSO!

My husband recently wrote an email to one of our fine elected officials, protesting the proposed state smoking ban.
This is the response he received, in its entirety:
"Last I heard was that Illinois and Minnesota passed a ban and I hope we do to. You rhetoric does nothing to support your position." (Rude AND poorly written!)
Arrrgh. Another one of our representatives has printed a campaign flyer- professionally printed on glossy paper- full of spelling mistakes, unclear sentence structure, etc.
Is it rude to volunteer my proofreading services? (This rep has never responded to MY email about an environmental issue, BTW).

English is such a mishmash of other languages. There is no rhyme or reason to its spelling or pronunciation whatsoever.

...How do the Brits spell esophagus?

I never knew they spelled aluminum differently -- just thought they said it funny. I still remember a sixth-grade science class video; we all cracked up every time the British guy said it.

(Just to defuse any potential w*k, I love the British. I'm really asking because I'm currently living in Canada, and it's rarely used words like these that trip me up when I spell them the American way, not knowing any other way!)
