I'm very much into ambient electronic, classical piano, and anything Japanese J-pop/Japanese lyrics.

Anything that's very deep and calm or energetic to switch between my two frequent moods.

Besides that, there's absolutely nothing else I listen to. I believe my own obsessive compulsiveness is responsible.

I was into alternative rock / punk, but now my playlist is mostly ambient, NZ dub, techno, and industrial. Game music as well, especially the soundtrack to Unreal Tournament, which has some great industrial tracks.

A couple of weeks ago I was really into french hip-hop, this week I'm listening to a lot of EBM and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

(erm... first post)

As music is one of my two special interests (btw, I'm not sure if I have AS or not), I listen to a lot of different genres and artists, the only criteria is that they have to be 'original', so to say 'pretentious'. I can spend a day listening to music and forget about anything else. All the time I search for artists to explore, and by explore I mean to get everything they ever released and listen to them in chronological order. Anyway, talking about repetition, I really like The Fall, and their first single contained a track called 'Repetition'.

We dig repetition in the music
And we're never going to lose it.
All you daughters and sons
who are sick of fancy music
We dig repetition
Repetition in the drums
and we're never going to lose it.
This is the three R's
The three R's:
Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

So yeah, I like repetitive music : )

It's hard to express the kind of music I like.... but I do definitely like a steady pulse, defined chord progressions, melody is nice to have but not essential, you can toss the lyrics since I rarely listen to 'em if I can even unstand them anyway.

This would be the right thread for me to link some of the music I've composed over the years... something I need to get back into.

One thing is for sure - we most likely enjoy whatever we like, as opposed to the sheeple who all insist on listening to the same Top-10 category stuff.

Personally, Ive always thought that ELECTRONIC rock/punk would appeal to people with aspergers and possibly autism. (also 1980's electronic music with vivid rifts etc)

electronic rock uses vivid but simple musical notes abd tunes to convey emotions, often repetitive, with Random and musically unfitting noises added in.

Seeing as people with aspergers experience simpler and a less complex range of emotions, Music which 'simplifies' emotions more so than mainstream music should appeal more to aspies as they can better and clearer comprehend the music's intended emotions and thus gain more emotional satisfaction from it and feel less confused and less insecure from listening to it.

The band DEVO is an excellent example of this sort of music. (dl some devo songs off of a p2p if you havent heard of them or check out their myspace).

The lead singer's girlfriend even said that he may have mild aspergers. Therefore the lead singers mild aspergers may well be influencing the music DEVO produces.

Also the repetitive sounds/noises of electronic rock/punk music may appeal to the obsessivness of aspies.

Am like electronic and metal [and rock, depending on who],am especially like progressive trance [the type that doesn't have sharp sounds like in hard trance,eg matt hardwick],chicago house, and non punk type screamy metal [eg,dream theater].Am also like listening to music from computer games [OSTs-Okami and Metal Gear Solid],am not aspie [kanner/classic autism] but tend to be into music that isn't overloaded with noises, especially don't like heavily vocal things, like DnB that has got some MC talking over it.

Over the past few years on various ASD forums,am have noticed a lot of people with AS and autism being likers of metal.
It would be interesting to know if there really is a connection.
