No, average is 80 to 100 and genius is above 150, not 140. The section between 100 to 150 is simply above average.

I did a professional test, and I scored 131. It wasn't broken down in the way indicated by the OP but it covered everything. I have a feeling my failings in social IQ prevented a plus 150 result, but that's not important to me. It was done in 2000. Should get it done again one of these days.

actually i just looked up, its officaly like this..

40 - 54 Severely challenged (Less than 1% of test takers)
55 - 69 Challenged (2.3% of test takers)
70 - 84 Below average
85 - 114 Average (68% of test takers)
115 - 129 Above average
130 - 144 Gifted (2.3% of test takers)
145 - 159 Genius (Less than 1% of test takers)
160 - 175 Extraordinary genius

Einstein (people seem to be fixated with him) had been measured at around 170.

I'm measured at 156

Personally, I don't think "aspies" will have super-high IQs compared to the "normal" population (ratio of super high to super high in the two seperate populations that is); our cognitive pattern is far more splintered than "normal" people.

Above average at one thing, below average at another; this is what a clinical psychologist told me anyway.

Isotropic, I heard Einstein's IQ was 200 - not 160.

And I query your stats on 1/1000 people have an IQ of more than 150. I especially query your 1/100 stat on the 130!

Yeah the 1/100 is wrong on the 130 (132 is 1/50, which is Mensa Qualified) but my stat for 160 being 1/30,000 is correct.

so between 132 (1/50) to 160 (1/30,000) there is genius somewhere there

I don't think genius is rarer than 1/100 I just think it requires more than IQ to be an intellectual heavyweight in the way Mozart or Einstein were considered genius..... that requires hard hard work and the right enviroment to!.

IQ is just a good way of going "Hey you with an IQ 147, go and f*****g work hard because you might, just might turn out to be like einstein)"

The IQ on Einstein is speculation..... but 160 is the figure i hear quoted around most often in cognitive science, i don't know what the source is.

I don't think the thoughts that "found" General Relativity

sure they are probably the pinacle of a spacialtemporal mode of thought engaging is synthesis, but there are many other facets of intelligence, and I think that einstein probably Isn't the smartest person to have ever lived. Poincare might be.....

There is significant variation amongst IQ tests, it all depends when you took the test and how old the test is. If you take an old test like the Binet, then your IQ is inflated dramatically, because believe it or not, the populations intelligence quotient is inflationary (like the economy!) and every decade or so the tests have to be changed. IQ is a relative measure. What you really need to get is the percentile. I am in 0.3% which is like 1/300.

Those people quoting stuff like 150+ IQs would (if its a valid result from a recent test as an adult) woule actually be even rarer than this.

Using the scale we do here in Finland, I tend to score between 145 and 162 (and I think I once got 166, but I came to a conclusion the test was flawed, for one it wasn't culturally fair). To give some perspective to those using a different scale, 148 and above is supposedly 1/50 of the population.

I kept scoring between 115-135 when I was around 12.

I'm taking an official extended test tomorrow.

In high school when I was in the hospital I was 136. Since then I've scored anywhere for 120-160 on various online tests. (I know they're not reliable) I would like to be retested, but have never pursued it.

35 - 50 Moderate Mental Retardation
50 - 70 Mild Mental Retardation
70 - 85 Borderline or slight

I am still waiting on my latest score for next Monday, but I was told my big failing was short term or working memory, so it would be interesting to know the score. My poor short term memory explains why it is so hard for me to sustain a two way conversation or answer questions greater than say 15 words in length, because I would have forgotten some of the first words of the question but they time they have finished speaking.

This was particulary evident when I was asked questions of mental arithmetic. The mental arithmetic was easy but because my working memory could not take in the length of the whole question I was at a loss to answer it.

I was given a professional IQ test when I was working in the psych department at my college. I scored 127. Interestingly, I've scored similar with online tests. I'm always quite high in spatial and verbal, but quantification pulls me down. I lock up on it.

Yup. 145 is 1 in 1000. I'm not sure what 150 is.

Wow, what test were you given? 1/50 is 132 (I think) on the Wechsler tests. 148 is rarer than 1 in 1000 on those tests. Yours must have had a very different scale.

Actually, I don't think Einstein's IQ was ever measured. Didn't they just estimate it based on his accomplishments, like they've done with other famous figures? I think that's why everyone has been giving different answers.

1/100 is around 137 (I believe), and 1/1000 is 145, at least on the Wechsler tests.

My IQ is -50. I am officially the most brain dead person on Earth! I'm surprised that I can even form my own sentences! I have a T-shirt that says, "I took an IQ test and the results were negative."

It must be a one size fits all. All of humanity!
