I don't have clear obsessions since I got my first job. :(
Magic The Gathering and the ocassional videogame come and go for periods of a few months. . .
Last year my obsession was my now ex-girlfriend.

1995-2001 was writing and literature in general, making music (drums or guitar) and martial arts. I started with videogame modding.
2001-2005 it was mostly videogame modding with the occasional return to card games, videogames (actually playing them) and making music.

Things like the stock market or specific aspects of business projects feel like "special interests" in that they are soon absorbing but only once I get started and I tend to procrastinate getting into them.

I still have a strange fascination for randomly spotted military ships, lighthouses and any lonely light (or lights) far away in the night; if it's a home it makes me want to be there to the point it's almost painful, if it's an oil refinery type of building it still fascinates me in a very weird way.

Nope, I'm quite unexperienced and I don't think it's easy to give advice on this.

I got obsessed with it during a business simulation towards the end of last year and I was constantly thinking about it and waiting to get home to continue operating (in this simulation we could only operate when the market was closed). Currently, I'm trying to keep an eye on what happens in my local stock market (not the US) and how does it react to news and the current situation in the US - but I'm not really into it at the moment. I signed up at some site for investing but haven't yet invested, I don't feel obsessed and I'm missing out a lot of information. I'm procrastinating. . .

What I did learn last year is that many people (in the simulation) were speculating too much about ambiguous things concerning specific papers. I did well by being simple and looking at more general trends. I could have come out second place and I came out third place because (1) I failed to asses the true risk of some of the assets I was having (downright stupid) and (2) I myself began making hopeless speculations about specific shares (like everyone else) and "wiggling" (as somebody called it) - meaning had I completely lost track of the kind of mentality that had helped me up to then.

I earn about 20% on every transaction(not stocks) I make. Usually 3-5 times a year but, sometimes monthly or, at one point, weekly. I can't wait til I have enough invested, so that 20% is a large chunk of change. One can only wish...

1. collecting musical instruments (i have a saxophone, clarinet, banjo, mandolin, piano, keyboard, african thumb piano, panpipes, 2 guitars, a recorder and a tin whistle... so far)

2. collecting books - I can't stop buying them

3 - making websites - luckily it's my job aswell

4. Flight of the Conchords - very funny quirky comedy, it's great!

My obsessions come and go but 1 - 3 have been constant for years. I'm sure 4 will pass when I find the next thing.

Anime/manga is my biggest obsession. The series I like change every couple of years.

I've also been fascinated by pregnancy and childbirth pretty much all my life. This obsession tends to overlap with my love for anime, leading me to draw some interesting fanart.

Anime/manga and video games generally do it for me. If I'm not into any at a time, I can get really anxious. There also should be an abundance of fanart and fanfiction else I'll get anxious too.

I've also had this odd fixation for dragons ever since the third grade, I just saw an illustration in a book about them and I fell in love... I couldn't understand how could anyone kill such a beautiful creature and call it doing the right thing.

Spoofs, pastiches, counterfeits, fakes, models, mock-ups, trompe-l'oeils, cover versions... anything that imitates or varies the real thing.

1) cars and anything related to them (engines, suspension, specific cars, etc.)

2) learning disabilities (really got interested in them when i started going through the diagnosis process)

3) drugs (both medical and recreational): learning about them, what they're prescribed for, how they effect the body. i don't do many of them very often, i've only done marijuana and drank alcohol but i like learning about them.

4) famous olimpians

that's all i can think of right now but there've been alot of them

I speak from experience when I say, watch out for illegal drugs. Some of them provide a happiness that is almost without equal. It is short lived though, and dependence comes quickly. Especially with opiates and stimulants/amphetamines. They both will ruin your life.

I was prescribed some percocet [acetaminophen (tylenol) and oxycodone] when i had my wisdom teeth taken out and i was given morphine when i had kidney failure. opiates do give you an intense feeling of euphoria and i did really enjoy them (used the rest of the bottle even though i didn't need them but whatever) but i don't like the idea of getting addicted to a substance so i don't do them recreationally. i don't even drink caffine because i don't want an addiction (even though i like coffee).
