I feel the same way as ebec, I don't like when other people have my name either. I just like to be the only person with my name, yet one of the people on one of my favorite TV shows shares my name. I know of 5 other people with my name. Oh well, at least my last name is unique to my area.
I have a girl in all my classes with my name :( So I'm always an initial :P

In the third grade there were 3 other kids with the same first name as me. That led to some confusion for sure.

In all your classes!? That must be rough.

I hate being the initial. My last name starts with a B so it's always "Adam B" like I'm secondary or something. :x

Well, she's a friend, so it's not horrible. I just wish I could feel like an individual in school, because everybody compares her to me, and she's better at school.

Just try to remember, you ARE an individual and even if your friend is better at something than you are, you have some things you're better at.

I can not bear to have my name said aloud. I change my name that was given me at birth constantly over my life and answer to my assumed name, instead. After a while I can't stand people calling me by my assumed name and change it again. Of course, I have to change jobs and change areas or they just don't 'get it' that I changed my name.

Isn't that interesting, I thought I was the only one.

Merle

(not even CLOSE to my birth name!)

Used to when I was a kid, I'd adapted to it now.

Thank god I'm not the only one. I don't hate my name, I just hate to say it. I also have uncommon name, and it's kinda hard to spell. What I hate is every time somebody asked my name, I always repeat it over and over again. It' so frustating, especially on the phone.

I never really answered the question, I used to hate saying my name. I don't now but I still find it weird.

Yes, defenently. Heh, it's wierd how there's the main symptoms of AS that we all share... then when it comes down to all the little quirks, most of us have alot of them in common, even little strange things like this.

I really really dislike hearing my first name, or worse yet, seeing it in print...it looks quite silly when printed.
FWIW, my husband is also an Oliver, and we both are uncomfy with my first name, and I also cannot stand his.
So, at home, its Marmot (me) and Murmy (him)
We also speak cat a lot....sometimes cats are much more articulate in their sounds than humans.

Me too! Well, I just shortened mine.

I think the reason I hate hearing it is because it's negative recall. When people address you with your name, then it's usually to complain, and the more they say your name, the more insulting it is. For example, if your name was Jane:

"JANE, why did you do that? I'm talking to you, JANE." and so forth.

If people got yelled at by name frequently throughout their lives, I can see how that would give them an aversion to the sound of their name. It was that way for me for a long time. When my father was alive he would bellow my name at me suddenly and I would jump, sometimes dropping or spilling things I was holding.

Not writing out other explanations but a lot of assumptions seem to automatically be made the moment someone utters a name. . . a sudden contamination of the mental space.

I just find physically difficult to SAY my name at times. Too many vowels. 7 letters and four of them are vowels. I mean, seriously. So frequently in the past I've asked to go by my nickname; which, subsequently, is also how I refer to myself in my head.

I hate introducing myself because I can see people don't understand what the hell I was saying. My name and last name ryhms, my last name is very uncommon. Both are German, although I am not and full of sounds that English-speaking people don't use!
