I have a weighted blanket and I don't have an OT. My mother worked in special education, and always had cool catalogs. We found a nice weighted blanket in one of them and she gave it to me for my birthday! Oh sweet joy, I love it!

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I bought a weighted blanket on eBay - it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Honestly, I can be a total wreck, get under the weighted blanket, and calm down in less than a minute. And sleep! I sleep so solid now, it's great.

I want a weighted blanket, but I have to save up the money. They are so darn expenisive out here in the U.S...are they cheap in the UK?? 8O Im still not sure that what weight would be good for my blanket?! I do like the pressure feeling and i love the feeling of pressure on my body. Helps to calm me. My husband at night while im going to sleep throws his leg over mine and then wraps his arms on me and make it really right to give me that pressure feeling..ahhh i fall right alseep in mintues LOL. :D

The one I ordered cost $235.00 But if it works it's worth it.

I've always liked plenty of weight on me when I'm sleeping, I didn't realise you could get weighted blankets... and from some of the posts up there it sounds like it might be something I should think about.

I had never really thought about it before joining WP, but I noticed that when I go to the dentist and they put the lead vest on me to take X-rays it seems to have a calming effect. I work in a high-stress environment and I am wondering if I could get something like that to wear at home after a particularly rough day . . . would a weighted blanket be much the same sort of thing?

Yeah, it's pretty much the same thing. There are weighted blankets, vests, lap pads, shoulder wraps, etc. Ideally, you could buy a weighted vest and wear it during work or on the drive back home.

I've always slept with weight on me. When I was little I would crawl under my water bed mattress. In college I slept under my mattress as much on top. Then I started sleeping under my futon mattress but it isn't very pliable and is kind of uncomfortable. I date very big guys and part of the appeal is that I can have them squish me and cuddle at the same time. Its amazing. However finding a boy that I like enough to keep him around all the time isn't easy. Last year I gave int to the fact that I'm a little crazy and bought a lead blanket. However it is stiff and I can't wash it. Today I started searching around for a weighted blanket of some kind. Until today I had no idea other people with autism had this same need. I'm planning on ordering one from weightedblanketsdotnet. I don't mind spending the money if it is going to work. Has anyone used their blankets before or heard from anyone else how has one? Please let me know. Thank you.

I sleep with two heavy comforters but I don't think I'd get a weighted blanket... my stuff tends to be taken by my step-nephew when he sleeps over and I bet he'd commender the weighted blanket.
