I can cook, just as long as I don't have to keep my eye on more than one thing at a time...so I'll cook each thing in batches and then some things will get cold

I'm also the complete opposite of my mom...she eyeballs everything, but I can't do that at all, I have to dirty all the measuring cups and spoons. Took me forever to figure out how to eyeball my tea (mix vs. water vs. sugar), and in the end I just gave up and found out how many teaspoons my favorite mixing spoons were.

Hardest part for me is remembering to put everything away when I'm done

Then why plenty of men are chefs?

To be on-topic: I can make ham and baloney sandwiches.

I AM on topic. My wife does ALL the cooking. The closest I get to preparing a meal is visiting pizzahut.com. There is no reason a breadwinner should also be expected to make the sandwiches.

NO man should treat being 100% illiterate in the kitchen as being deficient. If you resemble the episodes of Ward Cleaver or Andy Griffith in the kitchen "it ain't no crime".

Excuse me? I’m a bit offended by the simple fact that you are under the impression that just because you work and bring home a paycheck, you shouldn’t have to help out in the kitchen.

Would you starve to death if your wife left you? Or would you exist off of fast food? But then again, some men don't want lifetime companionship and love, they want a mommy figure to coddle them.

And for the clincher, tailfins1959; my husband helps out around the house on occasion even though he’s the bread winner. Get this; he will cook his own meals if I don’t feel up to it and I don’t mean just fixing a sandwich or calling Pizza Hut. Now there's a real man for ya.

Back on topic, I can cook and I enjoy doing so. I have to focus my attention on cooking the entire time I’m doing it or I could end up serving ‘burnt to a crisp’ food.

I take the jabs the world throws so she doesn't have to. She knows I'm at the ready to lay into anyone that mistreats her at the kid's school, neighborhood or store. One way Aspies can ward off being picked on is to learn how to be just plain mean.

And who in Sam Hill are you to tell me I have to cook? I told my wife when we were engaged that I'm in charge and if she has a problem with that to speak up then or hold her peace.

Tailfins are you being serious?
Thats a bit scary.

When I was in Cayman I lived off Oreos, I think if I was left on my own I would make my way to America or Cayman and make sure I could get Oreos and I would be ok.

I'm no troll. My wife's happy, she was raised watching her neighbors in South America get beat up, cheated on, watching their husband drink his paycheck. I do none of those things. Our society was CORRECT back in the 1950s; it's modern society that's screwed up! A good woman can be happy being a stay-at-home Mom that has no worries outside the home.

One of the best things she does for me is say "down boy" when I have to "deal with" someone who mistreats our family.

I can't fry things (When I make eggs, I always ruin them), and I haven't really tried baking, deep-frying
or barbecuing but I assume I'm bad at those things too.
As far as I know, I can make anything that doesn't need to be cooked, and I can cook anything in a
toaster or microwave. I can also make anything that involves boiling water first (e.g. Macaroni & Cheese)

When I clicked on the thread topic, I was thinking it was going to be a joke; I am disappointed.

Just typing that nearly sends me into shutdown mode.

Then how do you use a computer?

tailfins1959 - your screen name now makes sense. I'm not sure I agree with your presumption that life was better or correct in the 1950's but that's your perogative to think so.

I don't agree with any of the statements you made though. Most women in today's world have to contribute to the household income or families wouldn't be able to afford living the way they do. Is it still the "job" of the woman to do the household chores and cooking even if she works? If your wife enjoys being a housewife and doing the so called womanly duties, then by all means go for it. If you can afford to do the work out of the home and have her be at home, good for you. Most families can't do that. However, for you to say that because you bring home a paycheck that you're somehow exempt from doing anything else, sounds incredibly sexist and misogynistic.

Why? Different people have different abilities. So someone can't make a sandwich; big deal!

Making a sandwich isn't exactly a difficult task. If a person can figure out how to operate a computer, chances are they can take two slices of bread and wedge a few slices of meat, vegetables, or cheese in between.

Lightning88 may actually be too young to know about the male chauvinist type thinking. HEY lightning88! It is better than being like danielismyname!

As for ME? I used to be a latchkey kid and EVEN made cookies and brownies! There wasn't much at home, but LOTS of raw materials(bakers chocolate, flour, sugar, eggs, etc...)! Where did I get the recipies? a BETTY CROCKER cookbook. Of course, I made lots of sandwiches also.

BTW For those that didn't read a joke into jkids post. Ham refers to someone looking for attention! Baloney means a LIE or crazy idea!

BTW ANY AS person should be able to make a sandwich. It IS a very basic "self help skill".
