While I was sleeping I worked out what it is I want to say.

You seem to be rejecting every diagnosis until you receive the one you want which, I presume is Aspergers.
What is it about Aspergers? Do you truely think you have it and that you haven't yet found a reliable diagnostician?
Or is it more that you want to be diagnosed with it?

I don't think you should pick on Daniel...

I consider Daniel a friend so I'm not picking on him.

I think the person who said this was referring to Mw99. You didn't say anything mean- Daniel does rely on official definitions of AS. Nothing wrong with that. M2w99 said that Daniel relies on arbitrary definitions.

DSM criteria = arbitrary definitions.

If you were to look at the DSM AS criteria and diagnose Cruella De Vil with it, she meets it. I am dead serious about that because it's an example of why the DSM criteria can be bullcrap.

Yes, I was. I was speaking in Daniel's defense.

How is the DSM-IV arbitrary?

Don't like the DSM-IV-TR (Tantum's crtieria)?

There's Gillberg's, Attwood's, ICD-10, and that other one I can never spell; choose one of those, and it'll state the same thing as Tantum's (the latter I cannot spell refrains from mentioning repetitive behaviours, the others mention it). The problem arises when people who aren't professionals use it to diagnose themselves; psychiatrists and psychologists have training in applying the DSM.

nannarob,

I read an interesting study that stated about half of those who think they have AS and subsequently score high on the AQ test have the diagnosable condition, the other half don't. This refutes the thought that if one thinks they have it, they most likely do have it.

Mw99: Why don't you write down a description of yourself, your behaviours and thoughts, and maybe we can offer some advice? Not that any of us can diagnose you, but it's hard to say if you are NT, BPD, ASD without knowing anything about you.

That's him. I don't mind it, even if it looks basic; it includes the troubles with reciprocal social interaction, problems with empathy/theory of mind, nonverbal problems, and odd speech. It's lacking in repetitive behaviours, but the author may be assuming that if the reciprocal social interaction difficulties are there, the repetitive behaviours are there, like other authors (I'm assuming here).

He questions the validity of the disorder Asperger's, for what it's worth (I'm assuming that he thinks that it's not a distinct disorder from Autistic Disorder).
