Well all she ahs really clarified to me is that defintely autism, like she said my son definetly on the autism spectrum but she said he is 'high functioning' and when I ask am I an aspie or HFA. She says 'no' definetly autism but not the kind where you sit in the corner and rock. Anyway she's lost me but really knowing...
does it change anything. Im still the same person without or with out a diagnosis.

one thing to keep in mind...

i think professionals kinda hold their tongue on DXing adults... as much as they know about DXing children (lol)... i think they are a bit reticent in applying their VAST knowledge to adults

and that's kinda insulting... insinuating that you're not bright... the place i went to recently... the guy there asked me if i shaved my upper lip (trying to get at whether or not i have a thyroid issue, which is one theory that leads to autism, according to them.... grrr) AND I DON'T!! !! i was like WTF.... DO I NEED TO? how insulting.... pissed me off SO much.

Yeh she's a bit of a b***h. When I talk to her she gets this frustrated look on her face and she reckons I miss the points in what she's sayin.
Well maybe she's missin mine n she say's my thoughts are all over the place HOW RUDE
She a hell of alot nicer than some over Psych. One I use to see just went to prison for having sex with patients. Wish I was in that but he said he couldnt work out if I was 'a good girl or bad.'
Then in psych ward this male nurse was always tryin to come on to ya. Come up talkin to ya kneelin between your legs THATS VERY RUDE

that's somethin i've noticed which made deciphering a lot of my issues about autism ect hard for me... cause as much as I miss other people's points... THEY miss mine... and i feel at least they're fairly obvious... have always wondered why there are just so many dolts out there.

My impression is that some of the childhood symptoms often are outgrown. This because they are not core symptoms, but 2ndary symptoms (but may be more obvious than the core symptoms). As one grows up, one learns to better live with those innate traits, and so some of the 2ndary symtoms (tantrums is coming to mind) lessen or go away, but not the core traits. (What do others think, am I in the ballpark with this idea?)

If you're improving as you age, I wouldn't say that your label is getting "worst".

"HFA" is Classic Autism, and of those with Classic Autism, 1/3 have an IQ in the normal range who are seen as "HFA" (those with mental retardation are dubbed "LFA").

"HFA" is in the DSM-IV-TR, it just groups "HFA" and "LFA" under the same heading, which is Autistic Disorder; the two terms prior were made by researchers when they did outcome studies, to see if one group is any better than the other (those with "HFA" aren't that better off in reality). "HFA" is a straight diagnosis of Autistic Disorder coded on Axis-I, "LFA" is Autistic Disorder, and also an additional diagnosis of mental retardation on Axis-II.

Nothing in the OP indicates being on the spectrum specifically to begin with; cannot make any sort of guess as to where you would lie in relation to the given frequency for certain symptoms for each diagnosis. Based on the diagnostic criteria, HFA and AS are not the same thing. A lack of information is interesting in that it can be used to influence an outcome as much as tainted information - it makes things difficult. The general lack of information relevant to the question asked is curious because it make me wonder if I understand what is even being asked.

OK M, thanks, that makes sense. It's very difficult to say anything in this situation without leading in some way. I have in the past tried to give all information no matter how relevant or large, but I guess I don't have the right presentation because some traits and symptoms are given more importance by my doctors than they merit. They get the wrong idea because I try to make sure I don't lead them to get the wrong idea.

I was told by my Psychologist also that my thoughts were all over the place before she actually DX'd me.

You sound like you might be an Aspie, though really Aspies and Auties aren't all that different -the only thing that really differs is that Aspies tend not to have delayed speach or motor skills. Really, that's all there is.

That is more likely to happen with someone with AS than with someone that has HFA. But what is your problem? If you REALLY seem to have gotten over it, but STILL have the benefits, GREAT! Some NTs would die, and HAVE died, for such a thing!
