Thus far only one person has mentioned an obsession with dog fur. I can't help petting my mom's dogs. THey have short fur which makes them feel like velvet. It drives my father nuts if I sit in the middle of the floor and pet the dog.

I do becauseI must (& feel compelled). I am tactile, but aside from that I use my senses to navigate. I most often trace with my hand whilst I'm walking. I just touch instinctively and would otherwise feel...lost? To touch helps me process and orient.

This may analogous to a bat echolocating to navigate.
I love velvet.

You are not alone. I used to do that everytime I went to the store. I don't think I do it as much anymore, though.

I also need to smell people as they walk by...of course I often regret this due to the fact that some people stink bad or try to smell good with scents...very overwhelming. I HATE smelling alcohol on people. And I don't mean normal, party goers or whatever...I mean it's-nine-AM-drunk people, like a lot of my clients. (auto techs)

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

It might be worse than B.O., then again folks who drink at nine AM usually have both problems

hi all

I can very much relate to this thread!!

When i was younger i loved to feel and play with peoples hair...
i used to chase people of my age and grab them to feel their hair... - looking back its no wonder they didn't like me! - but at the time that did not concern me! Just their hair!

I love to pet animals and i always have done... I particularly like cats and i'm always picking them up and stroking them all the time... -
I like long haired fluffy dogs aswell - thought shorthaired ones are OK.... its the long haired ones i like best of all!- but he must not drool on me.... my boyfriends dog is terrable for drooling... so i only pet him when hess not got any danglies!

I mainly like materials now rather than peoples hair.

I have my flags and i can never keep my hands off them. i love the way flags feel.
i will touch other peoples flags aswell and if i get a moment alone with them i will hug and kiss their flags. I grabbed a guys british red ensign the other day on its pole... ready to be put on the boat and i managed to find somewhere to be alone with it for a while.
but im not shy of showing my love of flags off... but when its somebody elses flag i just hide a bit :D

I've noticed several of you like touching people's hair. It reminds me of my childhood a little. My brother is lower functioning and has had an obsession with my head and hair until recently when my hair is now shorter and thicker than it used to be. He would pull it, smell it, chew on it, sway my head from side to side, etc. I didn't mind, but my parents hated it. They would take privilages away if he did it. I think the last time I told on him because I was mad at him, and Mom took his Earth Wind and Fire CD away.

I never was a touchy person, using my eyes was enough.
