Two major things I can't stand but forgot to add to my list are teeth grinding and most liquid soaps. I can't stand the way my hands feel after using them. Dish washing liquid is the worst offender.

Yep. Sound AND the "feel" of the air. Argh... :x

Fragrances of any kind - people spray scented stuff all over themselves and their belongings, and you can't go anywhere anymore without having to smell them.

The worst part is that perfume/cologne wearers' olfactory senses have stopped working and they can no longer smell themselves, so they always think their reek has 'faded' - and then spray on some more. THEN they leave a trail of it on everything they touch, so it gets all over other people's skin and clothes. :x

It has just gone too far - the perfume industry has made a chemical hell out of the world, at least for those of us with sensory issues.

Good thing you don't live with my mother!

If you live with someone who is a bit "insensitive" in the ol' nostrils, perhaps you can mention a different scent that that person hasn't worn in a while. Sometimes if a person wears the same scent everyday that person becomes "immune" to it, changing it up sometimes brings the torture down a notch. Might work, might not-worth a try tho!

I don't like any loud noises that start without warning, such as:

- Sirens
- Dogs barking
- Babies crying/screaming

Oddly enough, I enjoy listening to my music at high volumes, to the point where I believe I may be losing my hearing. XD

And I absolutely hate wearing clothes that feel too tight on me. That's why most of my wardrobe consists of loose-fitting t-shirts and tank tops. Though I plan on changing things up a bit with more stylish things in the upcoming months.

Yeah, why do babies insist on screaming so loud ?

;)

Wouldn't it be great if they had a volume control knob ?

You know when you get in the car and turn on the ignition, sometimes the radio'll come on REALLY loud.

Well (and I'm sure this is my Aspidity talking), rather than simply turning the volume down - I have to rewind the situation and do a retake.

So I turn the ignition off, turn the volume knob down and restart the ignition.
If I don't, I don't feel like I've had an annoyance-free start to the journey.

Loud noises pierce through my soul...

Also I'm a super taster, some things I just plain can't stand in my mouth.

I cannot tolerate certain "scratching" or "filing" noises - e.g. the noise of people filing their nails. This is physically painful. It need to leave the room when my mother files her nails, and even then I cannot get it out of my mind and it will take a while for the negative effect to "wear off". Similarly if I accidentally cause such a noise by, say, accidentally scratching a piece of plastic of a certain texture, the noise will reverberate in my head and cause me serious discomfort.

I am extremely sensitive to bright light. Unless it is cloudy, I have a very difficult time going outdoors without sunglasses on. Even with them, going outdoors in bright sunlight makes me feel rather uncomfortable. This may be why I am near-nocturnal.

I am very sensitive to the humidity and pressure of air. I often feel the resistance of the air as I move through it. Sudden changes in air pressure, e.g. moving back and forth between air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned air (e.g. walking in and out of air-conditioned shops) causes me to be very uncomfortable and get a headache.

I am very sensitive to certain odors. For example, I find the odor of Swiss cheese intolerable. I also dislike the smell of sweat. When I was young and in school I was unable to eat lunch because the smell of the food cooked in the cafeteria (the place had a distinct smell, regardless of what was being cooked that day) was so nauseatingly disgusting. I still have a very difficult time eating in the presence of an odor I do not like.

I have a very sensitive sense of taste. This does not mean that I dislike everything that is strongly flavored; there are a lot of really strong flavors I enjoy and I generally have a pretty broad taste in foods, but at the same time there are certain flavors I strongly dislike. One peculiar one is that I am very sensitive to the taste of chlorine in water. Tap water from most places (there are some places where it is not chlorinated) tastes like drinking from a swimming pool to me. Generally speaking I am very sensitive to all sorts of "artificial" flavors - I tend to find most artificially-flavored or highly-processed food rather sickening.

what? sensory intolerance... never heard of it *shady eyes*.

1. metal on porcaline (my worst one! ick. feel and sound)
2. wool (Feel)
3. velvet (mainly on seats etc. especially car seats. ick. my moms AND dads car have velvet seats. damn how i want leather o_O. feel)
4. dust (Feel)
5. polystyrine (quite common i believe. even in none autistics. although i can stand it to a degree. feel)
6. metal on metal (it kind of comes in with the whole metal on porcaline problem. its hard because i have to sit with it whenever i go out for a meal or when my mom cooks or somthing and she uses the metal spoon with the metal pan. it destroys me. but still. every time im eating around someone and they scrape it kills me. i feel like keeling over and dying)
7. water (its not so mutch an issue... i like the feel of water... but recently when i felt soaked after a shower and after drying myself off as mutch as i could... my sister and mum wanted us to go out for a meal and i felt really wet but they told me i was dry and that i should get dressed. so. somthing very new to me, not an issue at all... but its still related to the sensory thingy)
8. pencil on paper (feel and sound)
9. pretty mutch paper itself also (feel)
10. felt tips on paper (feel and sound)
11. bright light in the early morning (sight)
12. bad music (for some reason i react really strongly to music i dont like. i remember crying to a busted song one time in the car cause i was that upset/frustrated over it)

Visual

1. The Sun
2. Headlights
3. Flashlights
4. Shiny things....I hate my gear shift plate in my car...when the sun hits it Im blind.
5. Some bright colors
6. Eye contact

Olfactory

1. Amonia....actually most chemical smells make me sick.
2. Flowery perfume....I like vanilla and sweet smells (candy).
3. My 21 year old son....he smells like stale smoke *gag*. Im constantly washing his clothes and spraying anywhere he sits in my house with fabreeze.
4. Decay....I can smell a dead animal a mile away
5. Sewage
6. My daughters turtles......Having my older kids living with me is killing me in more ways that one.

Tactile

1. Tags in clothes...or seams.
2. Being touched by anyone who is not on my "list" of people I feel comfortable with.
3. cotton balls (this is also a auditory problem)
4. socks....I only wear one type of socks.
5. Shoes.....I only wear light weight jogging shoes or certain flip flops.
6. Carpet against bare skin.....school was hell (everyone sit on the rug AHHHHHH)
7. I dont really like having my face touched but I can tollarate it if I see it coming....but again, only from people on my "list".
8. Light touches to the back of my arms or legs.
9. Sweating

Auditory

1. High frequency sounds (they actually blur my vision and make me sick to my stomach)
2. Any sudden loud noise.
3. cotton balls
4. Latex balloons
5. Motorcycles
6. Wet flip flops or rubbing fingers on wet tupperware, ect.
7. Crying tiny babies.....My kids were carried around constantly for the first few months of their life. When a newborn or tiny baby cries I go into a panic mode....I have to do something for the baby. When Im at the store and someones baby is crying I have to leave to prevent myself from yelling at them "pick up the baby, you moron". I never believed in the whole...let them cry it out concept. If I spoiled them...TOO BAD

I pretty much agree with most repeatedly mentioned ones here like crying babies, touching, clothing tags etc

one that I hate the MOST is the way that wood feels. the worst ones are wooden ice cream sticks. bleeeeaaaah!

I don't mind wood that's been covered with varnish tho (wooden floors I like a lot).

One of mine is certain smells. My mom bought a different type of dyer sheet once, and it was highly perfumed. it made me extremely jitty and depressed, and just plain weird, to be honest. it totally freaked me out. I felt like i was in pain the whole time, until I figured out thats what it was.

I used to have sensory issues as a little kid but not so much anymore. I don't easily get bothered by smells or bright lights. But some noises still make me anxious like buzzers and alarms (not alarm clocks, just security alarms) Though I get nuts if a tag is not cut away from a shirt or something.. but I wonder if everyone reacts so negatively to those.. who really knows.
