Yes, I can listen to people talk and superficially appear to be listening but not really comprehend what they are saying if I'm focused on something else. It actually happens more when I am relaxed.

The one who I tune out the most is my mother :D But yeah, if someone is talking about something that does not in the least bit interest me, I will tune them out...

I'm envious of you all. I can't tune out anything unless I completely want to miss out on the point of the conversation. I've always been amazed that people can zone out during a conversation, but at appropriate times give the "right" answer to the situation (usually a yes or a no). I could never do that.

I tune people out all the time...its a useful skill when you have kids LOL.
I also tend to focus on what I am thinking and not what the person is saying. I will sometimes start talking about what I am thinking about instead of what they are talking about. People are always asking me "what the hell are you talking about?" I also tend to interupt people when I think of something I want to say.
I have one NT friend who thinks Im a great listener.....actually she is just a great talker and I just pretend to listen. I interject some "oh" and "uh huh" and she thinks Im listening. Not that we dont actually talk but she goes off on these things that hold no interest for me...like other people that she knows, ECT. These are the things I dont listen to and she is never aware that I am not listening. Im good at pretending and she is good at talking LOL.

I can relate to everything you said! Especially pretending to listen... I do the same thing, so they think I am listening when I am really listening to a song in my head or something :D

Yes, all the time, and it can be quite embarassing when someone asks a question.... But lately I have been losing my hearing on one ear, so now I can just blame it on the new disability, LOL
