As-P-J-ness topic
The last time I was in the hospital, I was giving birth to my last child (almost 14 years ago). I took nice PJs from home to wear until I went into the birthing room. I had to change into a gown, as the nurse said, because of the blood which might get on my nice PJs (which I still have and wear! ). After the birth, I got cleaned up and changed back into my comfy PJs.
I still have to go back and vote.
Edit: I chose other because I wore what I wanted and then had to change to give birth and then I could change back!

I don't think that's true, at least not in the United States. Doctors only wear those mint green (sometimes lavender blue) scrubs when in surgery; they often just wear a white lab coat otherwise.
Also, because of the way the healthcare system works in the U.S. (private HMOs and other cheapskate for-profit corporations providing the insurance), you're in the hospital for the bare minimum amount of time needed. Unless they needed to run a battery of tests first, you'd come to the hospital first thing in the morning for a morning surgery but may be advised not to eat for a certain amount of time beforehand, for example. Patients usually put on the hospital gown just before surgery or if they're very sick and thus bedridden (pretty sure of this, I could ask my mom, who works in a hospital).
It could be that this example of nonverbal rule is not cross-cultural.
However, the key question is not whether the rule applies to one's community or not. What matters is, if it did apply in your community and you were exposed to it, would you notice it.
