Never did well in society. Avoided people and still avoid people as much as I can including neighbours. Retired now, had good jobs but changed often as I always felt out of place after a while. Had many, many short terms relationships and only one long time relationship (18 years) with another one like me: too loners together worked great until his death three year ago. Sure did and still do make a lot of aspie related errors also, got used to it over the years!

i always felt out of place & still do, i can never relate to anyone at times or should i say a lot of the time. i enjoy my home envoiroment but when i go out, that's when it becomes difficult. i can never make friends easily & if i do it can take a long time to get used to them. i don't really like a lot of society today, its too noisy for me & i get irritated. i'm the kind of person who can only concentrate on one thing at a time, i can't multi-task.
my worse thing is trying to start a converstion with people, and i always hate chit-chat.
things of no importance.

Structure and Function topic

There is a very narrow window between me and society, and it is difficult for both parties to view the other. Because of this reduced visibility, both parties do not get a very clear picture and so there is much distortion. I have a key to the window so it is like a door, but society has no tool to access me. Most of the time, this is for the best. I do not expect society to adapt to me, and I certainly do not want them in my head. They certainly do not seem to want me in their heads, either. The rest of the non-Autistic world deems many of us throwaways and this is to society's detriment, as it is more costly to shove us in a corner, or a closet and forget about us. Perhaps this is why we would rather remain in our own worlds, hold the key and not look through the window into their muddled universe. :|

Don't function well at all in society, but I don't credit the dysfunction to autism.

What do you credit it to?

If my environment growing up had been different, I think I would have been a lot more adapted and functional in society, despite the autism.

In society I usually function with a jumbled state of the nerves. Always looking forward to getting back home to the computer.

at first sight people would think of me as quite normal, until I start living with them, so I think the lesser I have to deal with people (with gallery owners (always say the wrong things and they turn to dislike me) and the likes for my interactions, as a tour leader for Dutch tourist in Thailand and Morocco..a fiasco, didn't know what I did wrong) the better, so slowly I think of becoming a recluse somewhere in the wild in India...a sadhu maybe

I do well at my job, but don't socialize very much.

I work full time and do my job well. I own an apartment, I'm married and I pay my dues and handle all my responsibilities fine. However, I'm pretty much of a loner, I don't socialize much at all, I don't do much for my relationships with family members and there's no way I'm going to have children of my own. I have few friends and I seldomly spend time with them anymore (I'm quitting the one-sided effort of staying in touch with them).

So I guess you can say I function fine on the practical level and terribly on the social level.

I think I do pretty good. I'm one of the uncool kids in school, but I've managed to secure a good circle of friends that are also the 'un-cool kids'.

I do okay at school. :o
