If Techno Viking is nowhere else in the universe, Techno Viking must be here.

If you are not 'there,' then you must be 'here.'

But... you could be 'over there'

It's a big question, I know, but why?

I was overjoyed to find this site and I came here for quite awhile just to read and giggle - I was thrilled to discover there are more people out there that share the quirks that I have - WOW what a revelation in a life changing and very wonderful way!

(Thanks ALEX!!)

Then I started coming by for news... see what's new, respond a bit.... mostly read..

Then I became aware that I tend to come here when I'm feeling particularly Aspie and particularly misunderstood by the world. Sort of like the back of my closet when I was a kid - out of the whole internet I find myself crawling in here to read and say "Yeah... I know how you feel."

Sometimes I come here when I'm the most beaten up or the most beaten down and it's not entirely fair to this community, because when I'm up and the most functional and most productive, I don't come here! Doesn't that sort of rob the group of the majority of sane and helpful input I am capable of?

I don't want to just take, or be comforted by this site. I do want to help and contribute and work together so I am trying to be here more when I'm NOT beaten up by Them.

How about you?

Pretty much what you wrote. :)

Also, it's nice to have a forum to discuss - with all due respect - things that involve engaging your brain a little. News, politics, science etc as opposed to what celebrity wore what to which awards night.

Hi there,

It's somewhat of a addiction to come here. I can relate to what people saying here and I learn a lot about autism in general. Some posts hit me on the nose and I can wonder for hours about the content. Others make me laugh outloud, some of you have the dry-est humour and I like that.

Also I noticed my English is improving, which is always a surplus. I'm a sucker for languages and writing stuff, I quess. Because English isn't my native language I dare to go really naked and be all the way honest about some deep personal stuff or feelings.

What I really like as well is the fact that we come from all over the world and still we can relate to each other despite our social differences or cultural background. The time diff. is sometimes somewhat confusing. When I just got out of bed and slurping my first coffee some of you are just about to go to bed. Somewhat different mindsets we have then.

Thanks Alex and best of luck to you all,
C.

It's a habit, sort of a routine. It's like going to the local pub, but of course it takes less energy to socialize here, and I don't have to leave my house, and I can do other things at the same time. So it's perfect for those times when I feel like interacting with people but don't feel like leaving the house or being in the same room with anyone - which is often.

And I guess it goes without saying that I come here because of the site's theme. I'm always interested in learning more about ASD's, just like most people who post here, I would assume.

I've tried other boards, but they don't hold my interest. I like posting a lot on just one site.

I come here because I would love more friends in real life, but if it isnt social skills problems tripping me up it is sensory stuff, there is a lot to look out for when I am with people. Here it is just easier. I kind of feel between worlds- too weird for the NT world but less aspie than many aspies I have met. If I had to choose I would choose the aspie world because it is more comfortable and a haven for the weird.

I come here less than I used to for two reasons: been more 'up' and productive lately, so less need to commiserate; and to be honest, my interest wanes when I get no feedback on any of my posts. I'm not an attention hound but I seem to kill threads or generally hear only the crickets and tumbleweeds after posting some of my more complex thoughts.

Because I'm trying to figure out myself, and even if it turns out I'm just some sort of NT that has some aspie-like traits of being obsessed with things and social awkwardness, at least I know I'm not the only one with problems like that.

I come here to know I'm not alone exactly in autism/retardation... since I'm going through a very hard time in my life accepting my autism and problems... so... guess I'm just looking for someone to chat to or something...

I stumbled onto this forum while doing research on Asperger's Syndrome. I wanted to learn more about myself, so I read some of the posts. I was so delighted to see that many of the people here think very similarly to the way I think, and experience the same things I experience. So I registered. :)

I love it here. It's the only forum where I've truly felt welcome. It's a place where I can truly be myself without being harshly judged and hated for being "different from the majority." Here, I am part of the majority.

I come here to commiserate, learn, socialize and to feel less alone. Almost any question I have posted has not gone unanswered and usually someone comes along and gives me info or their personal experiences that really help. I can't tell you how tired I am of talking to councilors that pat me on the back "oh no one notices your panic symptoms" or keep saying the more you are out there socially the better you will be at it. Bleh

In general I'm thrilled to be somewhat understood and to learn about Aspergers as an adult, because in the real world pysch and medical field we don't seem to exist.

T_T so am I. This forum is just so huge I get lost in it. That's just so ironic that people with autism/asperger's syndrome generally do better in small groups or one-on-one, and here is a forum JUST for us, but is so large and overwhelming.
