Yes, I too tend to choose food with sharp flavors. Things with bland flavors make me wish I hadn't eaten them.

The hottest I've ever had were potato chips coated with with habanero powder. They give me hiccups, which is something I hate, so for me, that's over the line. If they didn't give me the hiccups, I'd love habaneros.

Right now I have 3 jalapeno plants growing in pots. Every day I have fresh, spicy, diced jalapeno along with cheese sauce on toast. One thing about jalapenos is that their taste depends on what stage they happened to be when they were picked.

I love hot peppers, fried or dry roasted on sandwiches especially, but not the crazy hot ones. Does any one experience an intense itching of the scalp when eating peppers that are extremely hot? I do, and it's a very weird feeling.

Found this page to be very informative:Ian Chadwick on hot peppers

This is in an interesting post because once again a connection has been made I haven't thought about previously. When I was two or three I ate spicy foods. I don't know if I ate them on my own or someone fed them to me as a joke, laughed, and I wanted more attention so I ate them again. I've heard stories of me eating jalepano peppers and onions. Nowadays I like some pretty strange foods, anchovies, swiss cheese, parmesan cheese, but I don't really like the hot pepper effect.

Another fan of hot peppers here, my favorites: Habanero peppers in chili, Harissa sauce in couscous and Vietnamese hot sauce in indian or Chinese food (I also take a tablespoon of Vietnamese sauce when I have a cold and can stop coughing as it stops the cough right away, also unplug my nose and the endorphines generated by the heat helps me fall asleep). Also a used lots and lots of onions and garlic.

I like peppers quite a lot. I've not tried the Dorset Naga due to the fact that they are not available here, though I like Habanero peppers quite a bit. My favorite brand of hot sauce is El Yucateco, which is made with Habanero peppers.

With Hot sauces I keep several on hand for differnat foods:

El Yucateco (General usage)
Tapatio (General Usage)
Sriracha (Asian)
Texas Pete (Southern/Fried Chicken)

my husband, he likes to eat raw hot chillies, but not interested so much in spicey food, etc, but loves a nice fresh chilly, is it a pain thing???

he also does not like to have local anesthetic when having his teeth drilled? likes to be brave and grip the chair?

is there a connection?

:?:

(Old Thread I know)
I eat habaneros and blend my own sauces because the supermarket ones aren't hot enough, or taste too vinegary. While most people who've ever tried my sauces say they can't taste anything beyond the heat, I can taste subtle flavours within the sauces and chillis... So taste buds haven't been cauterised;-)
In addition, I'll use a bottle of Tabasco every 3 to 4 days. I put it down to releasing endorphins...

I love strong foods. Once I tried to eat a sandwitch that was nothing but a clove of raw garlic. I have tried to drink hot sauce and vinegar before.

I like chipolte and jalapeno peppers. I put jalapenos on sandwiches but only a few. I like to put jalapeno flavored Tobasco sauce in different recipes for an extra kick.

Ganondox, try dipping that bread in malt vinegar and then put the clove in it. It tames the heartburn and makes it so enjoyable you'll be adding more cloves to sandwiches very soon:-)
