This thread surprises me. I thought I once read somewhere that aspies have a poor understanding of time and don't understand when people are upset when they are late. Clarification anyone?

For much of my life, I really did have a time management problem. I think I got so much flac for it, and so many people telling me that I was irresponsible, that I ultimately became paranoid about time. I can´t stand to be late, but unlike many of you, I also don´t like to be too early! (Although that depends on the situation). I really like it when I am exactly on time.

All my clocks are 7 minutes fast, I obsess about time and check the clock constantly when I have an appointment. Even though I try to allow extra time for everything, there is almost always stress involved- (no matter how well I plan it, something unforeseen often tends to come up). If a train or something is late, I freak...stress/meltdown/overreaction. Yes...I truly don´t like being late.

However, even with all the stress, panic and meltdowns involved, I still manage to be pretty punctual most of the time...

I like to be on time for planned or scheduled things as well. If planned events are canceled or moved around it does dampen my mood a bit, however I get over it. Otherwise, I could really care less about time in general. I find it to be an artificial system of regulating when and how I do things.

Me too.

Good timekeeping is the only organisational skill I really have.

I hate late.

I get agitated
if it’s me.

I seethe
if someone
meeting me
is late.

My fallback
response is
“You better be
worth the wait.”

I hated being late as a kid because I was worried about the consequences due to bad anxiety & OCD. I still don't like being late but I can handle it a lot better than I used to. I usually try to leave early enough when it's important so I'd have extra time to to get there incase the bus is late or traffic is bad or something.

I grew up in a culture where being late is socially acceptable. Said culture even has a stereotype of unpunctuality.

It helped that in my mind, every clocks does not synch to one another.
So why bother expecting people to follow 'my' clock no matter how accurate/inaccurate whosever clock/s?

Anyway, I prefer to go or arrive earlier.

Yes. I prefer to be early. I like to relax when I drive to work, an appointment or a fun activity. Lateness is a major pet peeve of mine.

Am always on time. If I would be late, that would bother me, but I would apologize and explain myself.

I hate being late I try to be early or on time. If I am late I will always try to notify the person that I am going to be late with my sincere apologies.

I hate being late I find when I am late I lose focus of whatever I am doing there

Yes, it's very anxiety-producing, but it's the same for me when other people are late.

Lateness is a zero compromise area for me. Since I joined the workforce in 2003, I have been late for work only twice. Both those times were because I was given incorrect schedule information.

Being late (for anything) is a major anxiety trigger for me, and since I don't enjoy the feeling, I do everything on time. If necessary, I'll show up an hour early and sit in my car before I risk being even a minute late.

It's become so ingrained with me that I follow my routine to the minute every day. I work from 5am to 1pm. I wake up at exactly 3:55 without needing an alarm. I'm in the shower at 4:09, out the door at 4:31 and I punch in at 4:52. I am never off by more than 90 seconds.

tl/dr: I don't like being late, therefore, I don't do it.

I don't like being late as it disrupts the way the rest of my day is planned, if somebody else is making me late then that can really make me angry and not able to control my emotions even though obviously sometimes I do understand that things happen to cause it but I still think that if you know you have to be somewhere at a certain then you have to leave by a certain time so why are you not ready, can be really frustrating for me

The old musician’s union rule: Even if you’re on time, YER LATE!

The band director from my high school had an unwritten rule: if he said to be there at a specific time, you were supposed to show up 6 hours before that time.
