But if I look up at the ceiling, which is textured with little bumps, or certain other textures, I can see something in front of it that looks like zillions of little air molecules whizzing around. I don't know if I'm actually seeing light reflecting off of some kind of moving particles or if it's just an optical illusion, but I get kind of sucked into that. It's not like bits of dust floating lazily in a beam of light; these are miniscule sparkles that blast all around like little billiard balls going so fast it's like a shimmer. I've tried to find out if other people can see it, but I can't seem to teach people where or how to look.

elderwanda, I can see those! The way I can best describe the kind of movement they make is being like looking at a pond full of tiny, fast-moving fish. I can see them best if I look at them against a light, bright, background like the sky. The point of vision they're at for me is somewhere between the surface of your eye where you see floaters (which I also have; the sparkles are totally different), and the point where you're actually looking at an object.

I got also the problem of checking everything that is in a room even if I'm not waiting.
Really problematic, and remember that not only ASD have this problem, NTs have also that problem ; remember, male NTs like to look at a woman's cleavage and then, from the day on, they dream of this woman's boobs. :D

Yes. Sometimes it takes a while to realise why I'm staring at it, even though it's obvious, e.g. it's something I love, like and old bicycle or a bus. Sometimes I just cannot stop looking at these things for a while (not that long though, but it's like my eyes are stuck there). I used to love camouflage things and I'd notice them in an instant and stare at them for a bit, like my eyes were drawn there.

Is this the kind of thing you mean?

I'd like to know if this is an autistic thing, or a thing everyone does.

OH YES!

I have not met anyone else who has had this.

Yup all the time - as in almost every waking minute of every day - constantly some random thing will catch my attention and I can't stop looking at it. I also notice patterns in things - they appear a slightly lighter shade.

Ahh. Well at least I'm not the only one.

I don't think there are any practical applications for this though, other than finding lost earrings and pins.

That's describing me well.

My attention is often captured by most peculiar things and especially those, that others do not seem to notice.

Most often details that are boring and, thinking rationally here, not of any concern and/or important. Yet my eyes feel as if glued to them.

I also know this kind of behaviour when it comes to people and body parts/everything from faces to hands. If there's something unusual about their appearance, my eyes keep returning to that detail.

I am drawn to things that are symmetrical or have some kind of pattern. I can stare at spinning objects for hours where as other people just tend to think "wow spinny thing" and then it's forgotten about.
