Do people around you complain about your stimming?

A tip for stimmers: Do your stims quietly. It helps.

Yeah, but that also leads to migraines too. Sometimes you have to think too much to keep such control. The whole point of stimming is the bodies natural way of relaxing, tuning out too much stimulation. It takes focus in itself to redirect stims, thats not as relaxing.

People just look at me funny if I rock, bang my head on stuff, or punch stuff. I avoid places that make me do this, i.e., public transport.

O, and my mother comforts me, which helps.

My parents say that my constant joint cracking is going to make me get arthritis. I tell them over and over there is no evidence that joint cracking does cause arthritis. Then they complain about the noise it makes and how gross it is. I find it very soothing. I love the way my joints feel when they are cracked. Maybe why I love going to the chiropracter. My joints will sometimes feel still and even hurt if I don't crack them. My mother says it just looks odd when I do it in public. So? Do I care?

Oh, I loved cracking my knuckles when I was young. My aunts told me the same thing about arthritis. I do have arthritis in them now and can't crack them anymore, but it is not from cracking them in my younger years! My whole family has arthritis. I also love to crack my neck from side to side. It's such a pleasant feeling! One of my friends used to walk on my back in high school and crack it, while our other friends cringed. She had been taught to do this properly by her sister who was a nurse. I wouldn't recommend it unless someone is trained since it could do some serious damage. Unfortunately, my jaws pop now and I DON'T want them to! Such is life...
