I can't believe that they haven't gone back to the DVD release of Mummy Returns and fixed up the scorpion king graphics at the end. Truly abysmal.

I'd rather just had Brendan Fraser fighting the Rock wearing armour than some shockingly-bad CGI creation.

that's why it's a 'willing' suspension of disbelief. Besides, I always get punched in the arm when Hollywood 'gets it wrong'...

I use subtitles for foreign films. Sometimes I even think I'll learns some basic (pick a language) from them...

Sometimes in bars, restraunts, etc., it's nice to have, tho.

I had a fascination for German and French movies and watched a bunch of them in a short period of time. I knew a fair bit of french to begin with and watching the movies didn't really improve my french. Thought I might pick up some basic german but the only things I know how to say in german now are "please" and "cold". Well I guess that is pretty basic...

I prefer subtitles....when i used to work at night we had to keep the tv down so we always had subtitles on....since then i've gotten used to them, depending on what i'm watching....

I get very upset when a dvd does not have subtitles. I love my subtitles, unless they are way off, then they annoy me. One- I don't like to have my movies up too loud because then the background music and sfx are ridiculously loud. Two- I don't like missing a single word. I don't know why that is. Even when I read, if my eyes skip over a word, it frustrates me, and I have to go back and reread the sentence. It is kinda weird, because you would think subtitles would be more distracting than helpful, but not for me, and apparently not for a lot of people. Now foreign movies, I'd rather punch myself than listen to anything dubbed.

No, I find them distracting. There are a lot of misspelled words. Somebody needs to edit the closed captioning better.

I always turn the subtitles on when I watch DVDs--I get a lot more out of movies if I can process them both as sound and as text. As a side benefit, my habit of turning on the subtitles on my daughter's childrens' DVDs helped her become an early and enthusiastic reader.

I watch a lot of shows in languagesI do not understand (anime) and I need the subtitles for those, but I would prefer to not read subtitles. Subtitles are hard to keep up with and I lose parts of the story if I have to read them.

i have trouble focusing on the action on screen if there's subtitles, i end up staring only at the words and lose a quite a bit of it.

One time I watched Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior on French audio with English subtitles...that was interesting o_O

Yes. I love subtitles. I was so angry for like three weeks when I was unable to find the button on my remote... now I never turn them off

It really annoys me because programmes on the Hallmark channel all say 'subtitles available' at the beginning of Monk or House, but when you try to activate it, it always says 'service unavailable'. GRRR. I can't follow the stories at all (plus it's very noisy in the lounge) and I have to ask one of the staff what the character(s) just said. Very frustrating.

One thing though, I wish my TV had a setting to automatically turn on captions when you put it on mute...I can never be bothered to go in and turn them on manually.

Ooooh, I love subtitles. I mean, I don't need them (for hearing reasons, I mean), but they are extremely helpful for understanding what is going on when I'm actually trying to follow a show/movie. I don't really focus on shows/movies when they aren't on, and I quickly lose interest. There is also something highly entrancing about the way they roll across the bottom of the screen, and I love to watch for weird errors when they're being typed as the program is going on.
