Wow, that makes so much sense...

I met the woman who plays Ash and she says I'm like her niece. Now I'm really wondering in what sense she meant it. :?

I love Ash's voice. Isn't her name Victoria or some other really old school girl name?

I can do a pretty mean Ash imitation.

Something changed about Ash's voice in the more recent seasons and it is deeper and doesn't sound right...

Puberty. ;)

My daughter noticed it, too. He actually sounds more like a girl now - trying to sound like a boy. Kind of like Bart Simpson's voice.

Steven Spielberg is dx'ed.

I lost all interest in Pokemon (TV series), after learning everything about all 151. Then they went and added more, I felt so cheated. Plus, being 16/17 at the time, I was a little old for it.

I still miss it, though. I have a GBA emulator and Pokemon Blue on my PDA, which I rarely play anymore. I've ditched it in favour of WP. lol

((((hugs))))

He only sounds like a girl if you put a girl's body to his voice, its a mcgurc effect (where what you see alters what you hear, referring to an inside joke from a lecture on illusions where my prof recorded his voice saying "bah bah bah" and playing it over top of the video f a collegue of his saying "gah gah gah" so you actally hear "tah tah tah" or "dah dah dah" because your brain merges the two sounds) Thus Ash still sounds more male, as his body is male, and you believe te voice to be male.

I was once asssumed to be female due to my body size (overweight), the fact that I shave very well before work, I had long hair, and I just happened to use my more feminine voice by mistake... He asked me "Mam, where are your straws?" I ignored the fact he assumed I was a woman, was slightly amused, and just helped him.

Yeah - but the old Ash sounded a lot more like a boy - even after you turn off the image of an adult woman doing the voice. I think some women's voices are more convincing than others. As much as I love Bart and Nancy Cartwright (although she's a Scientologist!), Bart still sounds like a cartoon boy. Very exagerated. The new Ash sounds exagerated.

I hate what puberty did to my voice... Puberty shouldn't affect our voices, I wish I still had my childhood voice, /i still think in that voice, I also remember my favourite voice I did that I can no longer do because of puberty, and my voice just doesn;t go high enough to do it...

Pokemon in English now has an almost totally new voice cast - they moved production of the dub to a new studio and replaced most of the actors. :( Veronica Taylor previously voiced Ash; it's now Sarah Natochenny. I hate the new voices so much I can't bear to watch the anime any more.

Jimmy Zoppi, who has always been Gary's VA, did stay, and, if I remember correctly, has now also taken over duty on James, Meowth and Professor Oak. His Meowth is okay from the bits I have heard, but then I always thought Jimmy's Gary and Maddie Blaustein's Meowth had similar voice styles anyway.

Am I the oldest Pokemon fan on this board? :) I like both the games and the anime and for about a year I was obsessed with collecting the cards. Then I got over that and sold most of them, but I still like the franchise.

That's cool you think in that voice. I wonder how long that will last and if any "grown up" guys I know do that.

No - I am. I have a 5 yo daughter so I kind of have an excuse. But I definitely "gotta catch 'em all".

I don't care for the new Meowth - but only because Meowth is one of my favorite characters.

I noticed the Pokemon voices had changed during the newer episodes too, I much preferred the old voices, the new ones just aren't as good.

I am still obsessed with the cards, at over 400 owned, including a 1st edition Blaine's Arcainine, which was the highest damage dealing card before the release of the second generation. 120 damage, enough to 1 hit Charizard (the 120hp Charizard that deals 100, which I also have).
