I think Japan has the highest documented rate in the world. For standard autism, Japan has five times as high rate as the UK.

I also read somewhere that Germany and the UK have some of the lowest rates in the world.

In Japan for instance, there's a word for a-boy-locked-inside-his-room-24/7. Like Len from Digimon 2.0 or something-or-other.

I've heard about men in Japan who can live years and years in their rooms only to leave them briefly at night. The rest of the time they stay inside them while their moms slip them money under the door. They supposedly spend a lot of time on the internet.

Japanese culture has always glorified certain aspie traits. Traditionally, seeking solitude was seen as noble and in modern japanese popular culture (anime etc) you see a lot of aspie traits portraited as noble or cool or whatever. I haven't watched a lot of animes but so far the ones I've seen all had aspie references.
