I have a shower everyday, guaranteed, but that's partly due to me being in the military (prevention of infection & disease and communal living) but I also used to work at a stationery factory.

There I was lifting things and being fairly physical with stuff along the lines of A4 refill pads and envelopes - sweating lots and lots! I had to have a shower as the sweat levels were just incredible.

Admittedly, I was 18 when I was working but your friend just seems to be going through his teenage years in the normal way.

I don't think it's normal for teenagers to bathe infrequently. Many teenagers are even obsessed with their physical appearance.

Technically, you could also argue that it's not 'normal' to have AS, but we do. :D

You will always get people that worry that they are imperfect of glossy magazine celebraties, and also those that just don't worry about it - period!

I think the majority of young people want to look good in front of others of the same group, but you'll always get some that occupy the fringes at both ends.

Dunno...when I was a teen I routinely got away with bathing once a month! Granted, we had no plumbing and hauled our water in 55 gallon barrels, and had to pour it over ourselves with a pitcher in an ice cold bathroom....(and no, I am _not_ making this up) but still...

Now I shower at least every other day. I have gone so many years without standard indoor plumbing that I am simply delighted to be able to have really hot water running from a faucet. Perhaps when the novelty of it wears off... :-P

ya, after getting into the habit of bathing it starts feeling nice letting the skin breath and not smelling ones self.

As a teenager, I hated when my mom told me, to take a bath. We'd eaven argue over it. (So much work for nothing) Now I still hate all the work, involved with hygine, but I do it, 'cause it's necesary. To avoid desiese, and such. Though I'll often forget to clean my ears too.
I'm not much concerned with skincare either. My sister allways want to fix my skin. It just doesn't interest me, and it doesn't come naturally for me. I'll often forget to brush my teeth, in the morning.

Maybe he'll grow into it, in time. As he becomes more aware of the consequences, with bad hygine.

I've always thought when I myself was a teen and even younger, that if one did not bathe, shower, or have a nice, neat appearance, that no one would want to be around you, and would make fun of you and you would have no friends because of body odor or bad breath or something of that nature. So I bathed/showered, wore makeup, and kept my hair nice, all when I was a teenager and I have aspergers also. I suppose it's different issues with other kinds of people with aspergers. I came from a family that always had issues with keeping up appearances, and keeping clean when going out in public.

I think it helped me to find the 'technical details' about why it is good to:

1. clean body

or

2. brush teeth.
--------
1. Why clean body (I haven't found out much I think)
There are some bacteria that live on the skin surface, and feed on things on the skin. It's those that smell, not the dirt.(maybe I've been misinformed from the net)

2. Why brush teeth (here I think I've fully understood why to do it)
I should brush my teeth because...when I eat(or maybe even before) there are bacteria on my teeth. The bacteria do no harm as long as I have no food on the teeth.

When I have food on the teeth the bacteria feed on it , and 'multiply', but also leaves some kind of "acid" that destroys the teeth.
(thus one myth people teached me when I was a kid, that bacteria eat my teeth was totally wrong).
-----------
This helped me clean my teeth!

But I have doubts about, why I should clean the body, other than that some bacteria live on my skin and smell bad.

I have taken an oath to never walk in the shower/bathtub in my house ever again. I hate bathtub germs and after hearing that my sister threw up in the bathtub, that was it for me. I HATE taking showers so I rarely do it. My mom and my sister (Who take showers 5 times a day) always tell me that I stink. Then when I take a nice long shower they still tell me I stink so I think its even more pointless. I don't go out and get dirty so who cares. I use deoterant to get rid of presperation and that does most of the job. Back in the 90s-early 2000s when I was between the ages of 8 & 14 I took showers and baths on a regular basis on my own.

When I do take showers these days, it is at a location other then my house. Its no big deal when I do it at another location (such as at the house of a friend of my moms who has an extra shower that he never uses) Before my sister decided to throw up in it (There is a lot more stuff like hair and soap scum and my sister's baby deficating in the bathtub) I was taking a shower in it once a week.

As for brushing teeth, I hate it because the tooth paste makes me salavate so much that I keep having to spit for the rest of the day after I do it. I often have to keep a cup to spit in that fills up pretty quickly because of it. To get rid of plaqe I use a wash cloth and wipe my teeth with it.

As for getting sick, I rarely ever get sick. I boycotted the bathroom after my sister got sick and threw up and had diahrea all over it. Everybody else took baths in that filthy bathtub and THEY got sick and I did not. My health is no different whether I take a shower or not.

For the teeth, they're yellow and filled with cavities. My sister brushes her teeth everyday more then once, her teeth are yellow and full of cavities as bad and if not worse then mine.

So there you go.

That's really stupid and a waste of water. Twice a day is fine.

In my opinion it is still gross to stink, even if you don't think it makes a difference.

Makes no difference. I don't hang around anybody except for myself and I don't notice any stink. When I do, I take a shower.

I knew this kid who is about 19. I don't know if he has ever taken a shower! His hair was always greasy and his body was literally covered in acne. His teeth were yellow with a layer of green over the top. He stunk so badly. He would wear deoderant or tons of cologne, but then he would just smell like a mixture of BO and cologne. I remember there were times where I would feel physically sick just by looking at him. Disgusting! At least I haven't seen him for a year (thank God).

Do you ever see another human being? If the answer is yes, then BATHE! What about your mother, sister, or your mother's friend? Please...for the sake of people around you. It does make a difference. If you don't it's just... gross.

If your worried about germs and other mirco-biological organisims in the shower, use anti-bacterial soaps, or even better yet, wipe down the shower with bleach before you get in it.

Bleach kills anything.

But seriously, I try to take a shower everyday myself. I hate it taking them too. I'm in a dorm and the shower I use is used by 50 other people also. Anti-bacterial anything is a must.

I don't let it go that far. I take a shower at least 3-5 times a month at remote locations. Last time I took a shower was at the end of last week. Next time I will take one is when I am at the remote location tomorrow. And I am rarely around anywhere but this room alone and outside alone.

3-5 times a month is pretty bad. Even worse if you're a woman.

in my opinion 3-5 times a week is disgusting also.
