I like both but I'd prefer a dog.

Wow, all this time I thought I was the only person on WrongPlanet who wasn't a cat person.

Me too!! I have a cat, but it is really my husbands cat. I love my little dog! We should start a thread for dog lovers! Dog people are crazy for their dogs in ways that are qualitatively different from the way cat people are crazy for their cats. Ya know?

I like my cat. Cats just seem to understand more. Plus they're quiet.

Cats do understand me I think. Not to get into it, but I have 4 suicide attempts under my belt. One time I sat there thinking about it and Miss Callie (my one calico cat) jumped on the bed and started rubbing against me, like she knew.

Cats are awesome for the following reasons
they purr when they're happy (how freaking awesome is that?)
they cuddle
their loyalty is based on an emotional bond not relying solely on humans to feed them
dogs idiotically yelp and bark for no reason except they distrust someone cats just avoid them

That is so sweet. Cats are indeed awesome!

Dogs are very loyal.
You could beat them, starve them and they'd still save your life.
There was a story about a guy they tried to drown his dog, only to fall into the water and be saved by his dog.
Dog don't just bark for no reason, they bark when they sense danger, or if they're like my dog they bark when they hear the Law & Order: SVU theme music.

And cats purr for many reasons.

I like both equally for different reasons. Cats I enjoy their independance and quietness; dogs I appreciate the affection as well as simply feeling safer in a house with a dog.

I really like cats. But sometimes am not sure how to relate to them. If she keeps meowing at me while am patting her, and suddenly need to leave, will I offend her if I just leave without saying anything?

You know what, I like fish more. I think I understand fish better than I understand cats. I don't understand dogs at all.

Dogs are really fun, but loud and rough (well mine is). They like your attention. Cats don't like much attention but sometimes may sit on you.
I'm not sure which one I like more. My cat will sit with me but if I approach him he'll run away. My dog likes to play fetch, play bite, chase and sleep next to me while I watch TV.
Like the old saying goes 'a dog is a friend for life.'

I prefer both. Dogs 'cause they're funny, energetic and entertaining (if my dog is anything to go by)
Cats 'cause they're independent and demand little attention (mine never wants affection, I was a bad cat mum and made him schizoid I think :P )

Another thing to consider is bugurlars are more likely to be scared off by loud growly dog than a cat. You'd have to be a really timid theif to be scared off by a cat.
