I've been interested in lots of different kinds of animals.

When I was little, I was exposed to lots of animals and taken on frequent trips to the zoo.

When I was little, I borrowed a book of poisonous creatures from the town library.

I'd sort of given up on the school library because they were suggesting that I should only read "girly books" or books way below my reading comprehension level.

The children's book on poisonous creatures had lots of colourful photographs in it.
I also learned a lot about bright warning colours.
I found it fascinating that such frightening and deadly creatures could be so beautiful.

There were:

Snakes (such as cobras)

Blue Ringed Octopuses

Poisonous Puffer Fishes

Scorpions

Spiders (such as this black widow)

Poison Arrow Frogs

I've never handled any of these creatures, but at least I'd know which ones to avoid!
As a young person, I thought that it was important for me to be aware of these creatures and how they attacked their victims. Most of them, however, I noticed didn't seem to come from my country. So there was an exotic appeal too. Perhaps I'd have been more frightened if I had lived where these species are indigenous!

Later on, I learned a little about about the chemical structures of neurotoxins and how they work.
Also about venom and anti-venom.

I'm not just interested in poisonous creatures.
I'm interested in herbivorous mammals too!

I'm interested in all sorts of animals.

Do mythological creatures count? Dragons.
If mythological creatures count, I have a very long standing obsession with gryphons!

Thanks for reminding me of my deadly animals phase...

I also had a whale phase, I believe it had to do with how big they were... I saw my first blue whale a couple of years ago! It was so cool having gotten to see the world's largest animal currently alive in person. And what kid doesn't want a dog (although I didn't obsess over them). Now my prefernce is for animals that have traits matching mine, like the lone wolf.

I was obsessed with snakes from the time I was about 18 months old; when I was 2 I loved the movie 'Rikki-tikki-tavi' and the two snakes, Nag and Nagaina, and I pretended that I WAS a snake quite often. On the first day of preschool, they had us go around the circle and the kids would introduce themselves and their parents. I introduced myself as 'Nag' and my mom as 'Nagaina' :). And then I got angry when someone asked my mom what her 'real' name was. (Many strange looks.) I did find a baby garter snake on the playground once, but my teacher took it away from me. Looking back on it, I'm surprised that she handled the situation so calmly.

I also loved ants and insects in general (still bothers me when my parents set out ant poison), reptiles, and amphibians. Which brings to mind another preschool memory--I slapped my best friend because she called the class pet, which was a newt, a 'salamander'. I KNEW it was a newt, and I guess it made me angry that she didn't know that. We still laugh about that incident. Later on I collected toads in the summers and kept them as pets.

Horses, horses and more horses but as a child I also knew all the dog breeds and most of the cat breeds and their special features. Any animals that might be around were like a magnet to me, I would choose any furry thing over humans any time of the day. But when I found a cat outside or a dog at someone's house I was extremely possessive and if anyone else got near it it ruined it for me. I just wanted to be left alone with my new friend.

Domestic cats. I swear up and down that they're on the spectrum. I can relate to cats.

Spiders, particularly hobo spiders and jumping spiders. I've encountered both in my home, and jumping spiders were fun to observe, as they moved their heads to watch what I was doing. One went into a territorial sort of dance on the mirror (it lived in the bathroom) when I gave it a gentle prod with a hair. They also look rather adorable.

Zebras. I love the stripes, and the way they look as if sometimes they're having a great laugh.

Angler fish. Fascinating creatures!

Tigers. I love their grace, their colours, and they are one of my most favourite animals to digitally paint with my stylus and tablet. I like the cubs the best, they're so cheeky.

At one time it was horses and I still like them. I like to go to the race track and am gonna bet a few bucks here and there and see if I can figure out who's gonna win. That should be fun but I have to wait until later this summer because there's no meet right now.

I also love birds a lot. I admire them for their quick reflexes, ability to eat nasty foods like worms, insects and left over Mcdonald's french fries someone discards on the ground without vomiting, and being allowed the luxury of fleetingly flying from anything they don't want to be a part of.

Birds are my fave species. Definitely.

I also like all kinds of creatures who thrive in the water, particularly the ocean. I guess you could say the species I like the most are the ones who have the least contact with the human race. It's great they have their own space away and they can thrive there without depending on anyone but themselves and they are always surrounded by the coolness of water or air. Whenever I see documentaries featuring such animals on the Discovery channel or AP I think it's so cool and picture myself as a dolphin making those rings in the water and then swimming thru them. If I could switch places with one, Dolphins would be my first choice.

I was obsesssed with cows and horses when I was around 7, then it was cats, and now it is parrots, and birds.
I have been obsessed with parrots and birds in general, but mostly parrots, for 5 years, I can tell you EVERY species of parrot, by just looking at a picture of it.

I used to live where you live. I did volunteer work at the Wild Bird Clinic at the vet school attached to University of Guelph. That was a long time ago, but maybe it's more or less the same and you can do it.

It was very nice. It didn't take the people who ran it very long to get used to me and then they'd let me alone all day, cleaning enclosures and playing with hawks. I'd get to do falconry stuff with them, training them to fly to me, and then having them fly back and forth between me and a t-perch to get them flying again enough for the avian vet to decide if they'd ever fly properly again, and then to get them strong enough in the air to get to go to the hack-back release station.

Horses, deer, and wolves. But I could sit and study any animal (especially a wild one) for hours. Now I'm sort of interested in the people animal though, at least from a safe distance. I think anthropology is fascinating.

Oh, cats! ALL felines! I'm still obsessed. They fascinate me. They're so perfect, so...I can't find the right word to describe them. And horses and cows, too. But especially cats and horses.

I'm interested in learning about animals in general.

Wolves and Dogs. I've been interested in them since a young age.
Cats. Some big cats, mainly Leopards. I got interested in Leopards because I found them to be a lot like me.
Birds of prey, mainly the red-tailed hawk. It's because I read Animorphs and liked Tobias (he got trapped in the body of a red-tailed hawk)

I have loved cats, particularly Siamese, from the time I was very little. My favorite book was a story about a Siamese cat. I have had Siamese of my own since 1979. My first Siamese, Samantha, and current indoor Siamese, Prince, are both Lynx (Tabby) points. They are my favorite type of Siamese cat.

When I was a young child, bugs (mostly ants), then caterpillars. After that I went through a monarch phase, then I became interested in killer whales- (how I went from monarchs to killer whales, I'll never know). Eventually, that turned into an interest in all kinds of whales. I also had a unicorn phase. Oh, and one summer I was obsessed with robins. I would watch the many robins that lived near our house, listen to them, and was even convinced that I understood everything that they were saying! I felt like I knew them personally.
