My brother watched that show. I don't think he knows what AS is though.

What pisses me off is that Tyra made a little speech at panel about 'now we know you're autistic, Heather, and so we give you extra help because of it, which the other girls must hate.' which is a load of bunk. In cycle 5, the girl who ended up winning also had lines fed to her for a covergirl commercial. It wasn't something special just because Heather is 'disabled'. Nicole wasn't 'disabled', so what gives with Tyra making it sound like Heather was getting special treatment for AS?

;-p

true. even if they did choose to give certian models special treatment, they can't fault the models who are treated differently.

That's horrible! 8O If they were giving Heather special treatment, that certainly hasn't been shown in other episodes this season. She seemed to be doing well entirely by her own efforts. That must have hurt so much for her for hear.

That comment from Tyra was just a way for her to stir up some more drama for the cameras. If anyone has seen last year's winner's (Jaslene) commercials for Covergirl, they would see how horribly she delivers lines. I can only imagine how many takes they have to do to get even that from her.

Honestly, that challenge is a waste of time. I've been watching that show from the very beginning (models are one of my main interests) and NONE of the girls have really done much in the way of acting or commercials. There are a few exceptions (Eva did a few guest spots, Mercedes did a commercial for Chili's) but overall nothing where speaking is a concern. Honestly, most of them haven't done much of anything after the show.

Heather is what a model should be... beautiful in front of the camera. If she can pose, do as the photographer asks, and can take a fabulous picture, she won't have any problems.

I can't wait to see this week's episode.

Last week I just wanted to punch Bianca in the boob! What a loser she is.

Tormenting Heather on purpose just for fun! It reminds me of what kids used to do to me in high school. I wanted to give Heather a hug . . .but I don't know her, so that would be creepy . . .plus i'm in my living room and she's on my tv . . .and the whole thing actually took place weeks or months ago . . .so that wouldn't work out. haha

Anyway, the whole thing just gave me flashbacks of things I've experienced and it was actually a bit comforting knowing that another aspie girl has experienced the same ridiculous treatment. Do we just bring out the vile behavior in others? Are we prey for predators with low self-esteem? Why do they find this funny?

Back on topic, if and when Heather gets kicked off I will probably think about it all week. I don't cry at tv shows, but it will upset me and bum me out. She is the best candidate. She deserves it and will do the job better than any of the others. I wish it was a voting show like American Idol so we could all vote for her. She would definitely win if it was by popular vote. She wins the covergirl of the week every single week!

That's not what Tyra said, and I think you are missing the point. Tyra's problem was not that Jay fed Heather the lines. Tyra's problem was that Heather could not deliver the lines even after they were fed to her. Here's the transcript:

Tyra: Heather you are the challenge winner, are you ready to see your commercial?

Heather: umm huh...

Image

Tyra: Mr. Jay said, when being fed lines one at a time you were not able to mimick the performance and you just totally struggled. Why were you repeating after Jay?

Heather: I was having a little trouble with the lines

Tyra: So Jay fed you the lines, and I am going to be hard on you, because this is a fair competition, and has to be fair. We are not going to say "oh my god, Heather, you needed to remember it all." We understand, we invited into this competition, and we know that you have Asperger's, and we know that there is ADHD, and there is other things, so then your lines get thrown at you, so that's like a little favoritism that I'm sure some of the girls don't like. That's not fair. So, if he is delivering you lines, then every line should have been fantastic.

Nigel Barker: You gotta focus, even if you are not getting it right, make sure you get the things that you can do, right.

Jeffrey Chu: Don't make funny face. If you don't hear cut, assume the camera is on you.

Tyra: You also had a photoshoot. Here's your best shot.

Image

Tyra: It's a different side of you.

Twiggy: I say, I would never know that was Heather. It's interesting; it's the first time I've seen you on camera smiling.

Nigel Barker: what we need to see perhaps, it's a little bit more of this side of you.

Heather: Thank you.

During deliberations

Tyra: Heather...

Twiggy: She looks gorgeous, I love her looks, but I don't know whether she'll be able to hold it together. If she got a job with a major client...

Nigel Barker: It's disappointing to see Heather's performance this week. I think Heather was disappointed with herself. I think she is allowing herself to sort of conquer herself.

Tyra: I didn't think Ms. Heather could pull off this, though. I didn't know she could pull off smiling and sweet. I had no idea, shocked the heck out of me.

During eliminations

Tyra: Will Heather and Lisa please step forward? (Tyra speaks to Lisa). And then we have you Heather, a girl that comes into this judging room, and the judges are actually interested in you. They always say "what a beautiful girl, a girl that takes stunning, outrageously, amazing photos." And you had a challenge this week, probably your biggest challenge that you've had since entering this competition. Delivering lines in the commercial, and Jay Manuel helped you, and delivered line after line after line, and you still failed to deliver. (Silence). And the judges felt, you know what, Heather, there is something there, and maybe she shouldn't be sent home. Congratulations, you are still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model.

it's all one long job interview, they want to put her in those positions to see her reactions. The problem Tyra said was AS, ADHD and 'other problems' and one of those other problems is STAGE FRIGHT!But she was being disciplined. She didn't deliver and she was being shown she was on the chopping block. It sharpens your senses, or it knocks you out completely.

Sometimes Tyra says stuff like that so the other girls feel like it is OK to talk about it, too. I remember from other seasons Tyra will say "I am here to talk about vices" and the girl that had been binging on wine for days listened up (Lisa) when the girls started talking. Sometimes it is the only way to clear the air.

Even from a strictly visual standpoint, I think Bianca ought to go. She's just a generic dime-a-dozen skinny chick. Go to a popular club in any major city on any weekend and you'll see a dozen of her.

Heather has an interesting look. She's beautiful but unique and also incredibly versatile, as she proved in the last episode. She can be an anemic, alternative looking model if that's what they want of her and she can be a bright, gorgeous girl-next-door type model if that's what they want. She can be high fashion, she can be living art, she can be magazine ad, whatever. Nobody else on that show has anything like what she brings to the table.

Yes, yes we are. But then again, the TNs beat up on each other too, so I guess no one's safe. If they pick on us more, it's probably because we can't fight back as well (or so it would seem. *rubs lawsuit settlement in old boss's face*)

And still, I feel Tyra made it sound like she was getting her lines fed BECAUSE she had AS. I guess that's just me.

Isn't it hard to believe that this girl

looks like this girl when she is not in the middle of a photoshoot or recording a commercial?

There was a legend that Marilyn Monroe took a haiatus from Hollywood to pursue serious acting at Lee Straussberg's Actor's Studio in New York City. When she was going to classes she was walking across the street with Lee's daughter Susan and they were talking about acting and living the roles they played she asked Susan if she wanted to see Marilyn? She could become Marilyn Monroe right then - and took off her scarf and pushed out her chest and threw out her arms and there she was, suddenly people stopped on the street to stare and gather and ask for autographs, and she laughed and preened and charmed them all.

To a larger extent that is true. We are all actors. And some of us are good actors and some are not. I'm not one of the good actors, and proof of that is that I never learned to act like an NT.

I always drop the ball in that department, myself. I forget for a moment and my facade is exposed, eventually. I had not the support nor the universal understanding of what was going on with me like our Heather though she is creating her own way just like we did.
