yay, happy that i'm getting nearer my goal for plane trip funds  . So far $120 has been recieved via mail. B9 said awhile back he'd chip in $250 AUD, but i still haven't heard back from him on PM :? , but anyways that would bring me even closer still  .

b9 said he'd donate the awesome sum of $250 when/if you managed to raise $250, so maybe he's just waiting until you have that? $120 is well on the way though. :)

It could be that people are waiting to hear about what happens tomorrow, the 29 July, ( major surgery according to your girlfriend, not "just" a biopsy because you said on the last page that she told you she'd already had that ... ), before posting again? ... ... ...

i will give him $100 tomorrow and i will wait and see what the outcome of the surgery is.
if she survives it and some sort of proof of her identity and predicament becomes available, then it is likely that an avalanche of donations from members will ensue.
these donations may propel his total to at least $550, and so i will not have to contribute any more.

if the donations dwindle and dry up in spite of proof and leave him short of $550, then i will then make up the balance.

if i say i will do something, it will be done.

Yeah, i suppose that could be it.

Though i have another theory. My theory is that any thread that gets too long inevitably starts to get less posts because aspies are naturally more drawn to less crowded ones :? . Perhaps if i established a new one soon with all the facts established beforehand like a kinda FAQ in the OP. Would also deter redundant questions that keep cropping up, and just generally run smoother.

& at 23 pages, this thread is getting pretty long, and i haven't seen too many new posters lately. Flyingkittycat made an inquiry, but it seems she never came back to see the response or was otherwise uninterested enough to reply in turn.

I think the debate about the legitimacy of the situation wore itself out. Keep in mind most of the thread was about that.

Not much else to comment on until you get news after the surgery.

I haven't noticed a tendency of members here to gravitate away from long threads. If anything it the opposite seems to be true. Besides that would present something of a paradox in that the threads became long in the first place. Moving on.... I think everyone has to make up their minds about this based on their own personal experience and situation. It also calls for some sensitivity beyond the best of intentions. So maybe it's time to stop trying to convince everyone what this is or isn't and just do what you think is right. Best regards Sean and I hope to hear good news somewhere along this ever-expanding thread.

well, i think that toward the end of a long thread, it's mainly moving one and continuing to grow based mostly off the momentum of whichever members are still posting in it about the topic until that topic is exhausted. when i said i think members tend to gravitate away from long threads, i meant like people who have not previously posted in the thread feel less inclined to join it.
There are a few exceptions though like you see some of the more successful threads like the "good morning/good afternoon/good night" one in which the topic is pretty trivial & literally never exhausted so long as there's a new day and new things happening and bored people posting. I consider threads like those to be in a class of their own.

but aside from that, thanks ScubaSteve :)

QFT. :) Yes, I think that, like b9 says too, a lot of people wll post and maybe donate if/when sean has news about how the ( supposed ) surgery went, and that is today, so maybe know more by tomorrow.

But I don't know what proof he is going to be able to provide, if his gf's mother won't let her put her medical papers on the internet ... gf is 20 though so doesn't need mother's permission to do that. Don't see how we are going to "know" anything more for certain without them.

If she is indeed having surgery I hope that it goes as well as possible, and that she recovers quickly and fully.

But how can sean ever prove to us that she isn't faking it? By visiting her in hospital and taking photos of them together there?
.

surgery later today. She hasn't eaten all yesterday 'cause i guess you're not allowed to eat anything 24 hours before the surgery.

That sounds right.

Just a thought ... can she take photos with her telephone? Could she take one of herself in hospital and send it to you?
