Thanks for posting the interview, Alex (and for asking one of my questions). It was great to gain that insight into Heather after watching her on the show for all these weeks. She was certainly more gracious about Bianca than I would have been in her position. One thing my mom mentioned last week was that Heather pronounces "Asperger's" in an unusual way. I've never heard anyone else pronounce it like that.

Yes, I pronounce it "asp-er-jers", while she seems to say "arse-burgers".

Actually she says OZpergers. . .so kewl. I remember the first time talking to Australian folks on Skype they LAUGHED at the 'ass burgers' pronounciation of this Yank. very disconcerting!

On the Access Hollywood interview, I don't think she sounded NT at all to be honest. She was very reserved. Very much like an AS person.

You did a nice interview, Alex. You had some very thoughtful questions and you were very polite. Thank you for sharing : )

She is somewhat inarticulate, and she uses "you know," "like" and "yeah" a lot, but her speaking skills have improved quite a bit since she was on the show. I shouldn't criticize her too much, though, because she does speak a lot better than I do ;).

I'll be honest. I'm very turned off with Heather after listening to her interview with WP and watching her interview with Hollywood Access. She just doesn't look and sound like the aspie I felt almost instantly attracted to when I saw her on ANTM. That's good, though; once again, the rational part of my brain is in command.

Actually, the "p" should be soft and sound more like a "b" because it's a Germanic name. It's not a hard "p" because in German, it's following an aspirated consonant ("s" is German is often pronounced "sh", like you're breathing the "s" hard through your teeth). In German, a "s" followed by another consonant is usually pronounced as one combined sound, so it should be a continuous "shb" sound - something that's a little tricky for most English speakers. Americans and brits tend to make the first "a" short and nasal, which isn't correct either. It should be pronouced "AW-shber-gurs." Heather's pronounciation is pretty close to that, as close as you can hope for a non-German speaking American, I suppose.

I just saw a segemnt on E! about Heather, and Ryan Seacrest was pronouncing it "az-PER-gurs." Ugh. It's hopeless, I'm starting to think.

I quite like the AW-shber-gurs pronunciation. It sounds much better than Ass-Bergers. I like Heather's pronunciation too, although at first it bugged me since i wasn't used to it. I wish Oz-burgers was the conventional way to say it here in the U.S. I didn't see the E! interview. Does anyone have a link?

Anyway, I think its our word, we can each say it however we please. I like how Heather says it her way even when people interviewing her say it a different way. She knows what she thinks is right.
Sometimes I say the word "epitome" like "ep-ih- tome" instead of "i-pit-o-me" like its supposed to be. It just looks like it should be said ep-ih-tome.

I notice I do that with a lot of men in my life, I endued them with virtues and attributes they didn't have. . and when they acted like they hadn't read my script, I was very disappointed. I go through a period of mourning for a while, and then I recover the rational part of my brain and forget about it, until later, when I notice a pattern when I make the same blessed mistake further down the romantic road.

I liked the image of her popping her head up like a confused merecat when someone will yell her name! Matter of fact I see that in a lot of us here on WP!

I don't pronounce aspergers as assburgers (lol) I'm sorry but that is a funny word. Can you imagine the comedy skits that could happen over that name alone?

They would show someone waking up one morning, the person would scratch their butt and feel a burger and then slowly take it off then scream. Then it would show the person going to a shrink and the shrink would say, well you seem normal to me but the person would say "Oh yeah, explain this then!" The person would pull a burger off of his bottom and throw it at the shrink and then both would scream.

Anyway. I know this isn't the right way to prounounce aspergers but I promounce it as

as-peer-ger

Merle - that is so wonderful!! !

Alex, I would like to ask Heather if the show was edited in a funny way or if it was pretty close to how things went. Also I'd like to ask how in the world did she manage to deal with all that was going on? The different places they stayed, going all the way to CHINA! Did she need to have quiet time every day to balance out her energy (I do) and if so, did she take it? On the show it looks like she was away from the others and on her own alot, was that her way of getting that down time for herself?

I think she has really opened a door here. There will be more and more Aspies showing up and it will become more common in the mainstream lingo.

Tell her we are all so proud of her, Alex! :)
