I just remembered - - Les Nesman, the news broadcaster from WKRP In Cincinnati.
Les is socially awkward and his behavior is absolutely weird to the point that his fellow employees think he should see a psychiatrist. Yet, he seems totally unaware that he is even regarded as a misfit most of the time. He seems to be completely obsessed with hog farming, which he never fails to talk about in his news broadcasts. As Andy, the station manager, once observed, when the Shah of Iran was being overthrown, Les was busy talking about hogs. His only real friend is the creepy sales manager, Herb Tarlec, whose assholish ways and loud plaid suits makes him a social misfit at the station as well.

Howard Roark from "Foutainhead" is the biggest example I've seen in literature. Perhaps the only case of a novel where the main character hero is an aspie? I don't think Ayn Rand intended him to be aspie (the concept "Asperger's syndrome" didn't even exist when it was written in the early 20th century), but he sure comes off that way.

An interesting thing about this chraracter... He doesn't have as many scenes as most novelic heroes. The reason why is that Rand wanted him to be an example of a perfect man from beginning to end, which meant that he could not change as the story progressed. That makes for a boring story since normally a reader wants to see an imperfect character develop and change. So she flipped it by making the secondary characters around him change as they struggled with their own character flaws.

It's my favorite novel. I saw so much of myself in Roark.

Maurice Moss (from The IT Crowd) acts sort of AS-ish. Granted, he's a comedy character, so diagnosing him with Asperger's is a bit pointless.

There is no definitive litmus test; it's sort of how literary critics speculate on what the author "meant" in specific works. There are those who pose who say "what if the author meant nothing? How can you discern a meaning for sure?".

Just my two cents, 's all *shrug*

Patrick Jefferson, the murderous taxi driver from Torchwood's In The Shadows. I mean the character in the audiobook as I haven't read the book.
Repetitive behaviours, some vocal stimming, definitely had trouble in childhood with other kids, has rigid thinking patterns, seeing only black and white and nothing in between.
Though, the man thinks he is acting out God's own will, executing people because they were 'sinners'. Might be plain schizophrenia, come to think about it.

In the "Polar Express" there's this one kid who is just refered to as a "know it all kid" who knows way too much about trains, if you know what I mean. He probably has AS or he might just be an extremely nerdy kid. Also like someone stated earlier, Napoleon Dynamite & his brother Kip probably have AS. For the most part I think that most fictional characters don't have AS, but are rather very introverted and also a bit on the excentric side. Some of these traits are probably a reflection on the writers, who might possibly have AS, or might just be extremely introverted. No one really knows for sure.
P.S. Everyone knows it's Butters! :D

How about Bryn from Gavin and Stacey? Normally I wouldn't think someone from TV has AS but he's the exception.
Fairly old fashioned clothes and he's really oblivious to his lack of social skills.

You can't, but I swear Ignatius J. Reilly of A Confederacy of Dunces is truly the most Aspergian fictional character I've ever encountered. The author committed suicide....I have a feeling he was on the spectrum.

He killed himself because he had depression. Also, Ignatius Reilly is just an as*hole.

Also, George McFly from Back to the Future, possibly and maybe even Dr. Doofensmirtz from Phineas and Ferb.
