It's not like I'd organise a meetup in a crap part of London though, would I? Or anyone else.

Not all parts of Preston are bad though are they? London has some very beautiful bits and so does Preston. :)

Oh come on - Preston's a dump. London is only a dump in some areas.

I'd rather be in a dump in Preston (even the Pakistani areas like Fishwick or the neighbouring, rougher, Callon estate) than in South London where I could get murdered for going into the wrong housing estate.
Hahaha! I was living in Hackney in East London during the riots last summer. Me and some housemates went out on the streets to see what was happening, one housemate nearly had a camera snatched but he held on to it while the handle snapped, and I witnessed a 'hipster' type get his iPhone 'taxed' by an angry mob, but he had been stupid enough to wave it around obviously taking photos (i.e. photographic evidence) of people looting. D'oh!

It was a bit edgy, but I lived to tell the tale. But then I've been involved in some activism and protests before, and have previously been in the middle of crazy crowd situations, I'm more scared of the police in that kind of situation, tbh.

As long as you don't go anywhere too dodgy, late at night, and you keep your wits about you, you should be safe enough.

But then again, being a bit of an activist and a squatter, I'm probably the kind of person you're scared of and that your folks warned you about!

Btw, what about Barcelona? There are flights from many major cities, and a few budget airlines fly there, and it's possible to catch the train (an eco-minded friend of mine went on the train from the UK to Barcelona last weekend), and there's lots to see and do. Spain's relatively cheap compared to lots of other European countries.

Alternatively, I understand Berlin's quite cheap to go, and again, fairly accessible from lots of places.

:)

Sure, Barcelona sounds great to me. When? :)
