I have a goofy-looking nose, long eyelashes, big feet, and knobbly knees. :D

From a physical standpoint, I've always had low muscle tone which, has earned me a great deal of teasing & taunting from tyrants when I was a kid and all..Even though I'm not that little kid that was symbolically left behind, these days I'm not fond of going to the beach as, I don't care for other people staring at me or making gestures in regards to my appearance..Therefore, I suppose I'm still somewhat self-conscious about my appearance even if, it's not as bad during my younger years and all..

The only things that apply is the stuff about the toes, though i did have a C-section to get me out and about. I figured they would of had the sense of balance thing on the list. My balance is mostly on my right side and has barely improved since I was six.

I just met someone today who is a friend of an acquaintance. We got talking about theatre, piano, etc. That led into the finger length discussion. He looked at the length of my ring finger and said, "you know if your ring finger is the same length as your middle finger, that means that there is a 99% chance you are autistic." I sort of blinked. I wasn't expecting to hear that word in the conversation.

Mine is close but not quite that long.

Yes, but I'm a woman.

Women normally have a longer forefinger than the ring finger, or the same length.
My forefinger is significantly longer. I wonder if I have autism after all.

I have all the other things described above. My eyes are extremely deep-set, and are far apart. My toes are also very far apart, and are very long. My small toe is actually bent sideways, toward the second toe, which is very weird. I've never met anyone else with this; my dad has this as well. I have digestive problems as well. My head circumference is pretty large, but still within the normal limit. Delivery problems-yes.

I've read in a Dutch newspaper a scientific article on ohysical signs of autism. Here's a list:

1. The ring finger is just as long, or longer than the forefinger.
2. Big head
3. The eyes stand further away from each other than average
4. Heart problems
5. Intestinal problems/digestive problems/ obstipation
5. Above average distance between the toes.

Extra sign: Many people with an ASD have had a hard delivery, which is caused by a lack of physical ''communication'' and collaboration with the mother.

Bullcrap. My middle fingers are the longest fingers on my hands, ditto with my brothers; my head isn't particularly large in the real world; I'm not sure about my eyes, but if they are, I know the reason for that and it's not related to ASDs; my heart is fine; my stomach is fine sans having kidney stones in the past; and my toes are squished so close together that they look mutated. I was a difficult pregnancy, but my brothers (considered more on the spectrum than I am) were not. This list is hogwash.

I sincerely doubt that there is any one physical look.

:lmao:

Were you serious about the other characteristics? I'm just curious, because I never in my wildest dreams thought my widely spaced toes had anything to do with AS :?

My toes are crammed together because I wore too small shoes when I was little ( that was when I had to wear them. I prefered to go barefoot.

The toe thing is interesting. Can anyone post a photo of his/her toes? I will too as soon as I get my digicam.

I have

- heart problems (since birth)
- slightly large head
- pale skin
- dark areas under my eyes
- can move earlaps

i have the finger thing, and i've always thought my head was too big for the rest of me. born by caesarian (and preemie--but my mother smoked.)

i don't know about the toe thing because i don't know what average is for that, or the eye-spacing thing.

i think i have intestinal problems (bad digestion.) family has a history of heart problems, but i haven't seemed to develop any.

i'm skinny too and have the under-eye circles (but also have a lot of difficulty with sleep.)

I've never noticed the ring finger thing until just now. I thought my fingers were just like everyone elses! 8O LOL!! Now I'm going to be looking at everyone's hands, hehe!

something else: a few doctors have noted that my son's head has two "hair whorls" on the back. This seems to be an indicator of something. (I have them too--and mine are in some really strange designs.) Any ideas of how this relates to the inside of our heads? I know it's not Phrenology; it's taken seriously be the doctors. I'm not really comfortable with the outside indicators of our conditions. But I do see that many are thin with narrow shoulders or tallish.

Is the ring finger thing really that unusual? Mine is about a cm or so longer than my index finger. I always thought that was normal.

Finger thing, check

big head, i suppose

heart problems, no but i do feel my heart (or its beat) most of the time

intestinal problems, from time to time, but nothing serious, it's still rather excrutiating when it happens though.

above average distance between the toes, i think only my big toe and the next one seem a bit farther apart, but it could be my imagination playing tricks on me. In any event, the "next" toe is longer than the big toe (when flattenned out... otherwise looks normal).

1. yes, half a cm longer on both hands
2. looks normal now, looked huge when i was a kid
3. yep, though it's not too noticeable
4. not as yet but one of my sisters had a heart attack when she was in high school, so maybe
5. god, yes. but these run in my family
5. seems average to me, though my toes are abnormally cute.

Extra sign: not at all. my mother didn't even realize she was in labor until it was nearly too late. i was almost born in a cab; they'd just gotten her in when i came out in a wave...doctor caught some fluids with her mouth.

Well, decoder gave me an idea to post my toes so here goes:

Warning: They are not the nicest feet to look at. I have blisters all over them.

Image
I have to "unwind" my toes in order to be able to see the real distance between them.
Image
They really do look like alien toes.
Image
In kindergarten, I remember having my feet washed, and the supervisor really struggled to wash in-between my toes. She always complained, "why are your toes so weird?" It was one of the reasons why I always was the last in the foot-washing line, besides hating having people all around me.

Do you know anybody else who has their toes like that?
