Self Diagnosis.
You know more about it than your sons doctor? Wow, you should start offering diagnosis for free to anyone who wants it!
I am annoyed by the undiagnosed because it takes away from my child who is diagnosed, you poeple are turning autism into ADHD, simply your excuse for bad behvior socially.
Unless you have a diagnosis, you have no confirmed psychological issues. No amount of long ranting posts about how you were bad in school, liked politics and got drunk alot will convince anyone you have AUTISM. The next time you make the excuse "sorry I dont have empathy because I have Asperger's, or "sorry please excuse me for being self centered, its the autism" follow that up with this: but Ive never been diagnosed. Im sure none of you would, because then you wouldnt get the attention you seek and might have to start taking responsibility for your life and failures with others instead of blaming a non-existant condition.
Get real. Get over it. Get a diagnosis or stop calling yourself Autistic to make excuses for your failiures in life.
If I ever met one of you and you treid to tell me this, I WOULD believe you had mental issues, but more of a dellusional type not Autism.
You know, I'm offended by this post. Talk about self centered? This post exemplifies that. Ironically, it's also a bit on the delusional side.
Not everyone who has AS is the super genius who starts their own multibillion dollar corporation because of their advanced programming skills and business sense. Not everyone has the "social skills" that opens up doors to a casting agent's office in Hollywood so they can act in movies and have careers as stars. Not all of us sparkle as comedians, either. We aren't all brilliant singer/songwriters. There was only one Einstein. after all.
People don't care about every special interest in existence. They don't want to hear about it. They don't clap their hands and praise each and every one of us as brilliant ETs that speak an evolved language and can save the earth. That's the reality. You can have an above average intelligence, be polite and STILL not be in demand and end up unwanted by other people.
Some of us have actually experienced secondary issues associated with AS and it's an actual condition and it's very real, not an "excuse".
Just because one person's autism is not an issue doesn't mean everyone's isn't. It's posts like yours that confuse people about what autism is.
If you have had an easy life, good for you. Remember, not everyone shares your good fortune.
Not everything is an "excuse".
Do you honestly believe that calling out the people who claim autism, but dont actually have it is celf centered? You are offended possibly because you are living your life behind a label of Autism to get sympathy when you dont even have it?
This would be like me telling people I have cancer because of a lump but I never get it biopsied and diagnosed. Its an attention ploy. It doesnt work in the real world, the minute you mention to anyone you are autistic by your own diagnostic expertise...you are deemed a dillusional idiot.
Autistic people simply would not be offended by this post. Its the ones who claim they are autistic but havent been deemd it by a medical professional who are.
I am offended by your post, primarily, because it trivializes problems experienced by some people who have AS. You mention being self centered and you act like it's such an easy thing. What if you tried over and over not to appear that way but it just happens anyway? I don't use AS as an excuse, usually I get called "selfish" or "spoiled" instead. People don't understand what it's like. It's not a trivial cake walk, if it were, people wouldn't have problems to begin with. Why trivialize the problems of others? If you don't have the same ones that's great but what about the problems you do have? Do you like it when people tell you "just get over it get a live quit using that as an excuse!"

well i dont pretend to have a disorder to make excuses for anything in my life, so noone has acrtually told me to quit using the excuse of autism.
And, yes your problems are trivialized when you claim a disorder you do not actually have. Get used ot it.
I'd like to see a show of posts of people that have messed up in a social situation, then announced they have asperger's (dxed or undxed), and got sympathy for it. Seriously, that's not how the world works. Most people don't even know what AS is in real life every day situations.
I stand by that statement. He's a child psychiatrist who is filling in for the previous pediatric neurodevelopmental M.D. who relocated his family out of state. I read about it obsessively and I know enough to know they still haven't decided definitively what exactly AS is or how it should be described. I asked him once what the difference was between Asperger's and shyness and he said "Good question, I don't know". But that's him. I have no delusions that I'm qualified to diagnose anyone. What he can do is prescribe medication to help him with his co-morbid conditions. He would not be mainstreamed without them. I don't see how a personal revelation takes anything away from your son. I think you would learn a lot if you stuck around on WP but I wonder if you would be happy here. Once again, why the territoriality? What do you gain by it?
But how do you know the undiagnosed who have problems are any different from the diagnosed who have problems? I believe anyone who has a problem because I know what it's like to experience them and I know how real and how devestating they are. If someone told me their problems and wondered if they had a disorder I would believe they had one before I would believe someone claiming to be the smartest person on earth and wondering after that...
As for my diagnoses, I have taken so many tests since the age of four testing my IQ and seeing if I am "disabled" in some way. I didn't wake up one day and decide I had a disorder of some kind. My mother and doctors decided that for me. I was first diagnosed with a neurological condition at the age of three.

I came here to learn from people with aspergers and what I am actually getting is alot of fluff from people who WANT to have aspergers. Personal revalation...?? are you really minimizing this mental issue to a revalation about yourself as if Autism is a personality issue? I feel sorry for you for being so dillusional about yourself.

You are naive if you would believe someone who claims a disorder when they dont have it. Why are you even responding to this if you have been diagnosed with Autism or Asperger's? OR were you diagnosed with something else, but still believe you are autistic instead?
I am responding because your posts convey autism as being excuse making and that it's easy for an autistic to act like an NT when it doesn't work that way. If you have an issue with the undiagnosed that's between you and them but when you start posting that my problems are excuses and I need to "get over them" I have to interject. Even though I have been diagnosed, I do not deny those who haven't been can share the same difficulties as me.
perople who are not diagnosed with autism, but claim it for the reason of their behavior...are using it as an excuse.
I think it would be nice if you spent some time reading people's posts describing their lives before deciding that they don't have AS simply because they lack an official diagnosis. You are not qualified to make that assessment either. This site is about acceptance and understanding; it's not a game of " I suffer more than you". People have a right to have an opinion about themselves. Anyone who is self diagnosed is not getting any material help from the government so what's to you? Seriously. You are entitled to your opinion but your opinion is not going to stop the dialogue here that so many find beneficial. So if you want to take your marbles home, then go right ahead.
Ive spent the last two days reading posts from people who think their preference for fabrics, types of food, water temperature, love of video games, low self esteem and lack of friendships make them autistic. Get real.
It depends on what the behaviour is. Some behaviours are associated with autism, they are called "repetitive behaviours" and they are mentioned in the DSM. We can infer those diagnosed AS are going to have some sort of impairment when they are with other people because of what's in the DSM.
What specific behaviours are you posting about?
You might say: If it looks like a cat, walks like a cat, sounds like a cat, has the biological makeup of a cat, then it is a cat. You needn't a zoologist to confirm it.
