All. The. Time.
It is almost impossible for me to organise a sequence of actions, such as preparing a simple meal or even getting dressed, without narrating or "talking myself through it" to at least some degree. I also frequently catch myself saying random things, either out-of-the-blue thoughts, echolalia, or, most commonly, what I call "mirror echolalia" - where I see a word or phrase written somewhere and then can't stop saying it over and over. I am convinced that this talking is essential for learning and thought organisation. If people are around, I can keep it down for a while, but eventually sounds start to creep out.
i do not talk to myself. i would get very impatient because i would already know what i was going to say.
if i was to talk to myself i would respond with "yeah yeah yeah i know so shut up!".
i do have outbursts of words when i wish to let off energy. i live alone in an isolated place so no one would ever hear me no matter how loud i get.
it happens at times i wish to stretch (which is like a whole body yawn).
the latest example that happened about 1 hour ago:
i had been at the computer for about 4 hours and i did not get up and i was writing a module for my system at work (from my home(i work from home)).
the tv was on in the background and the sound was at a medium volume, but i did not register it for those 4 hours because i was engrossed.
after i was satisfied with my progress for today, i saved and alt-tabbed out of my code screen back to the desktop and i swiveled my chair around, and i stood up and need to stretch badly. i was happy.
there was a story on the news about some people and before i knew what the story was about i was in the act of stretching, and i bellowed in a scottish pirate accent "arrrghh!! ! strrring the lot of the bas-tarrds up!! !". it was an element of my stretch and i squeezed those words out as part of my pleasurable release during the stretch.
i engaged my vocal chords as well as almost every other muscle in my stretch and i just said the first thing that came out of my mouth. it never went through my mind.
a scottish pirate accent is a good way to let off steam in a happy and comical way for me.
sometimes i use other accents in my stretching routines.
i never speak to myself in a normal tone of voice in a thoughtful conversation. i only say audible words (when i am alone) at times when i am needing to stretch or otherwise let off steam.
many people make vocal sounds when they yawn or stretch. i just convert mine to zany and ill thought out sentences which surprise me and make me laugh.
the people in the news story were just disgruntled home owners who all shared stories about the same shoddy builder.
