Did anyone else actually have an adrenaline rush form looking at it?

And I had absolutely no idea what a "fractal" is until I checked wikipedia.

To me it looked like one of the creatures invented by H.P.Lovecraft for his Cthulu Mythos. Of course, a great many of them were in fact deep sea creatures...I'd post a link to an image but I've either not been here long enough or do not have enough posts or something. :(

This thing makes me feel something contradictory...
It is hypnotic and fascinating, but it also makes me insecure. As WorldsEdge stated, it can strongly remind something from Lovecraft's work, either a creature or a place. It seems organic and mineral at the same time.

There is a lot of YouTube videos showing a virtual camera flying over or around a Mandelbulb, if you're interested.

Garriond, the OP hasn't been around in a long while. It's a shame, I thought he was an interesting fellow.

It's beautiful and terrible. That thing could've come out of HP Lovecraft's imagination, but it's gorgeous, too. It would make the most awesome monster ever. I can say I'm affected, but not how.

I don't think this is the prettiest - there are many more Mandelbulb examples (and a pile of links to forums and further web sites) over at http://www.skytopia.com/project/fractal/mandelbulb.html

There is quite a lot of artistry in applying the colour and depth representations, so they are not impartial images, but chosen with some emotional element.

I didnt know that there were 3d mandel algorithm... and yes, it looks like a deep sea creature.

I have no opinion about it, it is as exciting as a roll of toilet paper to me...

I find it very soothing. On first viewing it strikes the imagination to think of an octopus...
The colour is just marvellous too.

It looks nice, but I have seen nicer things on this earth.

I think it is best if I do not say what some of the nicer things are.

The woodpecker which used to visit my garden looks nicer, I want a door knocker which is shaped and coloured like a woodpecker.

Yes...I recognized this as Mandelbrot/Fractal thing though I know nothing of the mathematics behind it all. As other posters mentioned, it looks like an eerie Lovecraftian thing or something from HR Giger.

It also reminded me of coral reefs....particularily the deeper parts of Indo-Pacific coral reefs with soft corals, crinoids (aka....feather stars/sea lilies....a type of echinoderm), sea fans and other inverterbrates. You will see this type of scene on many wall dives on the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. A part of world which i've never been to, but would sell my soul to satan to visit one day. the fish in the background are a species of Butterfly fish. Butterfly fish are very popular among saltwater aquarium enthusiasts. This is far more beautiful than any Mandelbrot design IMO.

I think it's beautiful. It looks like a city made of sand... underwater. Or something like that. It's certainly got my imagination running ;)

Loved it. The kind of thing I would like to hang on my own wall at home.
