I don't have one. My myopia is quite severe and my reaction speed is slow, so it probably isn't wise for me to drive.

I'm waiting for them to invent and install tracks on every street, road and highway, and cute little cars that run on the tracks anywhere you want to go, just tell the car where you want to go and sit back and relax. I wonder if i'll see it in my life-time?

Technically feasible for sure, but not very likely to be implemented soon. People are very much in love with the perceived freedom that driving your own car entails, and I don't think many would be willing to give this up. Maybe on a very limited scale in certain urban areas.

I'm 18 and I don't have my license but I have my permit. Driving's usually relaxing for me but when I take the test or practice maneuverability I get so nervous I feel like I could explode. My parents say that my driving's to the point where I could pass the test but my last 2 tests (with glasses; I took 4 tests before I knew that I needed glasses) didn't go too well. The first time I got in the wrong lane and some A$$hole sped up behind me and the second time I drove in the snow (I didn't know that they hadn't paved the road in DAYS until I took my test!) and got penalized for sliding (not a huge skid but the kind of sliding that any normal driver would do on an unpaved road!! !!) Ugh! I'm so pissed that I don't have my license since my younger brother and all his friends have one.

I am also 22, but don't have a permit or anything yet because my parents are paranoid. I ask them to take me to the DMV to get the manul I have to study and they tell me they wouldn't have too if I hadn't lost the old one. I remind them it got lost when we moved and besides it was for Ohio and we live in Texas now. They make up all kinds of crazy excuses. My mom says it's too confusing for autistic people to drive. Why does she always go ahead and decide the outcome of something I've never tried? How does she know it would be confusing for an autistic person to drive when she is NT? I told her Temple Grandin drives and she was at a loss for words. Personaly, I don't think her paranoia has anything to do with me being autistic, it's because she's having a hard time accepting I'm not a little girl anymore and I'm the last one to "leave the nest".

I'm nearly 22 and I don't have one mainly for enviromental reasons, but would like have it for emergencies
and to get out of the house more often. But at the moment I just don't feel the desire
and Sydney peak hour traffic makes me want to put a revolver to my mouth.

I do not have a drivers license but growing up I had mini bikes, three wheelers, dirt bikes, and quads to ride around on my father's property. I could imagine driving with my anger issues tapping the car in front of me rear bumper due to the fact I did not like their bumper sticker. LoL  I would take busses everywhere but I have a bad habit of getting lost on them which is funny because I never get lost on my father's heavily wooded property. Strange

Me neither. I'm not in a rush to get my license, but I ought to practice driving so I can use the car when public transport's not convenient enough.

I really don't want to. I can't handle the idea of a gearstick and the pedals, and I'm convinced I'd just crash anyway.

People keep getting at me to start driving and I just shrug it off, but the fact is the idea of it terrifies me.

I don't have my driver's license because my parents won't let me. They say I'm never allowed to drive because I would be a danger to myself and others. I agree with them - I am very jumpy in the car because I'm afraid of being hit. When we're driving, I try to think of what I would do in different situations that we come across, and my knee-jerk reaction to seeing any car that has a remote possibility of hitting us would be to slam on the brakes.

I don't have my driving licence. I had many lessons when I was 17 and 18, from different instructors (one of whom refused to teach me after a while, because he said I'd kill us both!) and I was totally rubbish at it. Slow reactions, difficulty with depth perception and thus judging distance and speed, and a difficulty with predicting what other drivers were going to do. I do intend to try again now that I have Irlen lenses - they help with depth perception - but I remain very apprehensive.

I was disqualified for medical reasons at the time when everyone was doing lessons and getting cars. Now I feel it's not worth it.

I just don't care to get it. It's just an overwhelming feeling of NO I DONT WANT TO when my mom even tries to ask me. I'm 23, and I never wanted to drive. I think I wanted to drive when I was 15, but then it just went away after that. I get a lot of anxiety about it and I just.....just no. lol. No way.

Me too. I have also always been afraid of it because the idea of being responsible for a car and having to react to what other cars do is scary to me! Luckily I live in a big city (Toronto) with a good public transit system. So I don't need a car to get around places.

My mom has always feared driving as well (she has some Aspie traits but is not an Aspie) but she just got her G1 at 58 years old! So I feel more hopeful that if/when I decide to get my G1, I will be successful at the test and can practice driving.
