I have almost none of the things mentioned in this thread. My mouth is not downturned, my teeth are not stained, my lips are not wet.

My head is not large, as a matter of fact, it's smaller than normal heads. My husband says that it doesn't count because I am smaller than the average and my head is just proportional. I have to wear kid's hats to get them to fit on my head, but I often wear kid's clothes and kid's shoes too, so maybe he's right.

No psoriasis, though I do have eczema.

My ears are weird though.

ImageChild with autism is normal in appearance, at least to the untrained eye. But he has a few physical anomalies characteristic of the disorder. The corners of his mouth are low compared with the center of his upper lip, and the tops of his ears flop over (left). His ears are a bit lower than normal and have an almost square shape (right).

My ears do turn over a bit like that, perhaps a little more and the mouth about the same too. A bit bigger but the same shape and I am a little more overshot.

Abdominal cramps is said to be a common complaint of autistic kids and I had them in a big way.
Up until my teenage years I had frequent abdominal cramps and it gave some people the impression I was developing acute appendicitis. They sometime lasted for hours and I was in agony with them. I have never felt pain like that in my life Then almost "miraculously" they went away and I was sometimes accused of faking it for that reason and only attention seeking, but the pain at the time felt as real to me as a stab in the guts with a knife. I ceased to have them as a teenager which was a godsend in my view.

Interesting. I had all kinds of abdominal cramping up until I turned about 17. I had multiple sonograms at a fairly young age due to them because they thought it might be ovarian cysts or some other variety of uterine disturbances.

I got a lot of abdominal cramps. I do have a sensitive digestive system, but many times when I was younger I would get pain that didn't seem to fit in with the foods that my doctor tried to convince me I was sensitive to. All I knew is they hurt like hell and nothing I did seemed to make them go away. Interesting. I might show a list of things to my family doctors that they missed over the years as far as my AS symptoms go......more for any kids they might mis-diagnose then for vindication. They are friggin dummies though

I have very pronounced low mouth corners that I'd never even thought about before seeing the mug shot of that kid; as for the other characteristics: haven't got 'em.

But when I was a kid, all the way back in the 60's when most males ( including boys), still wore crew cuts: my older brother (who has AS traits) observed that my head was egg-shaped; he even made fun of it by calling me "egghead" (a "Batman" villain) all the time, and I've often wondered if other Aspies shared the trait.

My head isn't smaller than normal (or larger), just shaped kind of odd; they even had to special order a football helmet for me when I played YMCA football (for all of two weeks), because none of the regular helmets that they had on hand would fit me properly.

I used to have terrible food allergies as a kid and I was often covered in hives. On one instance I had to be rushed off the the hospital after I had skulled down a bottle of Calamine lotion as my mother was smothering my body with it to treat really bad outbreak of hives. I was always scratching at a cluster of hives somewhere on my body and had them up until I was a teenager. Probablly may be due to the fact dairy foods did not feature much in my diet and I even switched to black coffee an tea.

My head is taller and longer than normal, but normal width. I also get the "drooling" thing where I get white slime on the edge of my lips. I also have a small mouth, but I'm pretty sure that's just genetics...don't know if that's an "autistic" trait. I also have eczema.

And about the large ribcage thing...I was always wondering why my ribs seemed to large! I'm normal weight, but despite that, my ribs still stick out a bit.

I also had a 110% overbite before I got orthodontic correction. 110% overbite pretty much means by top teeth would completely cover my bottom teeth when I bit, and then a little more than that.

My lips might also turn down more than normal a little, but I'm not sure.

I have an overbite too. As a kid I had large bad buck teeth with a 2mm gap, but an accident at the age of 11 with a baby stroller converted into a billy cart caused them to be knocked out as I landed face down on the concrete driveway and I had to get falsies in.

That is another point. Did any aspie out there have or had buck teeth at one point in their lives?

I've heard the large heads thing. It's actually being used in infants as one of the 'signs'. I do have a large head, so hats are hard to fit on.
So do I! 8O As far as I know, I only have Tourette Syndrome. But now I don't know. We are so similar in nature.

I sat in on the Psych testing of my daughter. After the tests the Doc said that all in all things were not that bad. He said that she had above average intelligence and that my daughter was good looking. By that he meant that she was symmetrical and everything was where it is supposed to be. He said that people with disorders often don't have symmetrical eyes or their ears are lower. I look for that sort of thing now. I think there is some science behind this and anecdotally I call tell you that I have seen some very unsymmetrical faces in Special Ed. I'd like to learn more about this and if the science has been accepted. If someone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Paulsinnerchild,
If this isn't a trick question, I'd guess the boy on the right, looking slightly down. Not because he's looking down but he looks like my son and I.
My son looks straight into the camera and is very photogenic.

Here is the autistic child, he is me about the first time I was diagnosed in 1961 aged 8
I did not understand the virtue of smiling so I just held my mouth open as I was blind to human emotion. And any mechical devices fascinated me and cameras were near the top of the list. So it is no surprise autistic children like me would be looking directly at the camera. It is looking at other people in the eye is what they have and issue with.

I did that for a long time... Also, as I aged, I realized I can't "fake smile" and it be comfortable or authentic-looking, so I just go for the pensive pose.
