My cat is my friend, for sure. She is also getting certified as a service cat, because I've trained her to disrupt negative behaviors.

Yeah, I consider Diva to be a friend, well not really a friend so much as family. She is so wonderful and can brighten a dark night or make a bad day seem great. She knows how to make me smile.

maggie puss, minnie puss, lucy dog, jonah and gypsy and iddy horsies are all my friends - they are also my pets in that i take responsibility for caring for them and restrict their movements or forbid other people to take them away...

I also have cat, bird and bunny friends that are not my pets - they live in the wild and feed themselves and come and go as they please

I must look funny when i go for a walk out in the paddocks - dressed in black with a black n white dog out front and a black and white cat either side and a row of 3 brown horsies following along behind and a bunch o birdies all asking if i remembered to bring their bread

i chat to the kritters just as often as i chat to humies - and often the kritters make more sense

I'm also more likely to go to a kritter for a hug when i'm upset or stressed than to a humie 8O

When I went to feed Ari this morning I couldn't find him and thought he had run away. Then the trees at the side of the house started meowing and I breathed a sigh of relief. I'd be upset if he ran away or was taken by someone.

I had that happen to my Jack Russell, Dotakin years ago. But I had her for 11 years when that happened. It upset me so bad. So I understand what you're saying. I'm glad you found him.

I had that constant thought about my jack russell Maggie because she would jump the fence and run off for just under an hour then come back. Sometimes she'd be gone for longer. I was an expert at catching her. It wasn't easy though. She has a super hyperactive dog, even for jack russell standards. Eventually my mum had enough and took her to the pound.
We've started to get another cat coming around. My kitten Lyra is friendly with it. Don't worry she's just been desexed. But my mum fed this stray cat so now he's going to constantly come back. I don't think she knows just by feeding it a bit that this cat is going to choose our house as a new home or use this house of one of his many homes.

So yes, he's a friend, though I'd think that "pet" would apply just as well, I don't think the two terms are mutually exclusive.
I agree. Although the terms "pet" and "friend" both can mean many things, I consider my cat Faeden to be a pet and a freind. Faeden is Gaelic for "golden", in honor of my Celtic heritage. He's an orange tabby.

I appear to have a good bond with the family cat, Sammie, who is a super-kawaii Siamese mix. I'm usually the only one home for lunch (my dad works, and my mom is usually at class up at the college, she doesn't get home until about 1400) and in the mornings. During the mornings I will open up the window curtains so she can bird-watch. Later in the afternoons she will come up and cuddle while I'm doing homework. She is also very vocal and will meow at me when she wants something - sometimes I can even hold a conversation with her, I'll talk to her and she'll answer with a meow.

The funny thing is, I brought my girlfriend over to have dinner with me and the family, and Sammie went right up to her and started rubbing against her demanding attention - which is weird because she usually hides when strangers are over. I think she could tell that my gf and I had a strong bond and therefore decided that she was trustworthy. At least she approves of our relationship

I really want to take Sammie with me when I finish college and strike out on my own, but unfortunately my parents will probably not let me. At least I'll be over to visit as often as I can.

That's sweet, have you named him yet?

Yeah, I call him Pan after Pantalaimon from the Northern Lights. I used to see him around and call him my daemon. So that's pretty much how I started calling him Pan.
