There is the odd one that make my blood boil though, such as a particular man I see posting here from time to time. Anyway i wont say any more.

If my presence here makes anyone feel weird, annoyed, boils anyone's blood, or makes anyone's life worse in anyway, please just let me know directly because that is the last thing I want to do.

I've always seen you as rather agreeable so I don't think so. I feel this whole thread has been started to target one person, who I personally feel has given measured, thoughtful input. This is an open forum and you can't always expect to agree with everyone who posts here NT or not. So ignore if you want to, sheesh. What's the value of starting an us vs them thread? I thought that kind of pack like behavior was frowned upon on this planet.

A forum filled with topics trying to figure out NTs, and then a topic saying NTs know nothing about things talked about here...

Interesting. Idiotic, but interesting! :D

I don't really care one way or the other.

Since I do not know the reasons why anyone is here then unless they tell me specifically and the reason is to disrupt or do something immoral or whatever, then it is nothing to do with me.

There are forums around that are autism specific and so I have a choice.

Yes! We will hide in a dense forest and design our own language and culture and be discovered hundreds of years later!

This is exactly why saying this:

Quote:
Anyone else feel weird that NTs are on here giving advice on a subject they have no clue about?

when you really mean this:

Quote:
Well one member who on here who is an NT...

is a bad idea. It makes the NTs who are here to learn as much as they can about autism so they can better relate to those on the spectrum feel unwelcome when the exact opposite is true. By saying that they're all ignorant, you're increasing the chances that they stay ignorant.

(FYI: I don't mean ignorant as an insult, it simply means that you don't know much about a certain subject. That's no crime, and simply by being here you show that you're trying to correct that. Being willfully ignorant, by doing something like making a blanket statement about millions of people, is a different story).

On the only Polish board for aspies that exists, you can find a couple of obviously not having anything to do with ASD folks who are in the lead there 8O Their (especially one guy's) advice on how to do this or that and cheerful (and dripping with amateurishness) spreading a theory according to which almost every AS diagnosis nowadays in actually diagnosing the condition known under the name of "shy narcissism" (which may be partially true indeed when it comes to the milder cases) makes me wonder what for heaven's sake they are doing on a board like that. Though I am able to answer my own question: AS became "fashionable" in some groups and now everybody who is smart and socialy withdrawn thinks they have it because of this "intellectual" tint to this condition known as "the disorder of geniuses".

Here maybe this approach isn't that visible but when I am a lurker on the said board, I can see this attitude very clearly. They want to be diagnosed with AS - want this VERY much though from what they describe as their symptoms, they don't have it almost for sure as far as an outside observer can estimate. It's all about those articles on the net and in the illustrated magazines - practically every time an article published in the Polish area of the net shows an aspie, it's a genius. So I'm not suprised people cling to this label so much, sometimes to this extent that it is just flat out ridiculous.

I am an NT parent of a young boy with PDD-NOS/ possible AS. I have found coming to this forum extremely valuable in understanding more about how my son operates. I try not to give too much advice unless someone is asking for an NT point of view.

A lot of them do have a clue as they're on here due to knowing an autistic individual or having one as a family member.
They do have some idea, might not completely understand but the advice they give is generally about things they know about and things we don't know about.

What about basically everyone on here who says something along the lines of"Autism is a gift I'd rather be autistic than be a boring NT."
That's the same thing. How would an autistic have any clue on the quality of an NT life? I bet if everyone was cured to NT they'd have an entirely different perspective on Autism.

How is being NT being cured? AS isn't a disease.
