I think that it's up to Alex, to decide. I may not agree with Autism Speaks, but it's his website, and I'm sure that if he loses enough interest, he'll ask, if someone wants to take over. The thing is, that I don't know if I would be responsible enough, to take over the world.

Those worried about speaking out really don't need to. As long as everyone follows the terms of service, there is no risk of being banned or even edited. The moderators believe in believe in free speech to the maximum extent allowed by the TOS. Seriously. I strongly believe that this is your community, even if it is Alex's site, and you should say what you want just as long as you stay clear of outright slandering him (as I would want you to stay clear of slandering anyone). I, personally, think it is important to know how the membership feels about the things going on, and for the owner to get a sense of what the membership is perceiving (not that he has to listen). And ... that is probably the limits of what I should say on any of this.

DW a mom, you've really been tempering threads like this one and some of the others related to the Autism Speaks underwriting support very well. You've made some thoughtful points and, just in case no one else has told you this recently, I think we're lucky to have you as a mod.

Thank you.

Even if people asked various questions of Autism Speaks, they wouldn't give meaningful answers. They've already shown a tendency to completely misunderstand the basis for the views of many autistic people, and essentially reply to strawmen and think they're having a conversation. Every conversation I've ever seen between them and people who disagreed with them went like that. All they do is reinforce false stereotypes about autism in general, and their answers to questions reinforce false stereotypes about the people asking the questions. There's not a lot to be gained from that kind of conversation. If you want another "side" that will listen to a conversation, you're far better off talking to individual people who aren't aligned with these various organizations and have really thought out their opinions beyond reinforcing stereotypes about functioning labels and totally erasing the meaning of disability rights and so forth.

There is yet another option: Do just as I am doing here and try to address the "negative feedback" from those "few users" before things might again get all messed up. I might be delusional in thinking I am making any difference here, but I will nevertheless keep pressing people to look for things to say other than what they think Alex might owe anyone or need to do and to find resolutions amongst themselves. Alex is not our mother.

Most of the negative feedback comes from users who feel the OPs are abusing their power, which constitutes many of the users who is kicked, banned, etc. Alex does not owe us anything, truly. However, if he wishes to take part in the channel, he should do so and if he doesn't wish to, he should not. Simple as that.

Personally, I have nothing against Alex. I don't think he's necessarily a bad person, although I don't know him, really.

I'm simply voicing my opinions and giving my feedback, while trying to remain impartial. I'd prefer if this stayed civil, just like you.
