Getting haircuts...
The kicker is the almost manditory small talk... I never initiate it but sometimes they try asking quesitons... I give my answers and never persue the conversation further. The conversation usually ends with me saying I like to study math... and them saying oh I hate math.
I used to have a b---h of a time figuring out how to explain the cut I wanted and people generally f---ed it up anyway. I never minded people touching my hair but I hate the smell in there and they always want to use hairspray, which really bugged me as a kid and now I still dislike. As for small talk, I guess they have a boring job if they don't talk to their clients, but I do wish they could accept that some people want their hair cut in silence.
Amen. Though I do not get anything done needing clippers (any more) I do like getting it brushed. Only thing is I have 11 earrings in each ear and oeftn the hairdresser will snag them.
Another one like me! EVen during my ubertouchaphobic period (the last nineteen years- I'm 19 by the way) I liked having my hair done, the feel of it anyway. Not so fun when it looked like crap.
However, I go through the trouble, because I like my hair to be short.
Note for the future: just say "I'm allergic to hair products, gel, hairpray, everything." Even if you're not they understand the concept of "allergy." The concept of "I don't like it" will produce argument, but generally people arent' so dumb they think you can stop an allergy by arguing iwth it. Usually.
I cut my own... I dont like others touching my head (any part of me actually, but especially my head)... But I have to admit one of my major stims includes my head. If you have the right comb its very relaxing to just stroke it around your scalp... Just dont get too hard or you'll bleed.
I don't like having to sit incredibly still while someone waves sharp scissors around and bits of hair get on your face! Ugh! I used be really bothered by how to describe how to get it cut, but just saying "half an inch shorter" seems to work ok (the hair - not me, though with those scissors...).
I really like the feel of the electric clippers on the back of my neck. They send pleasurable shivers down my back, though perhaps these are just the rebound from the less pleasurable shivers caused by the sound of the scissors!
I did grow my hair long some years ago, but looking after it seemed worse than getting the hair cut. It would never dry, and try keeping a pony-tail intact while flying a kite with your back to a strong wind
It always takes a couple of days to get used to seeing myself in a mirror after a hair cut. At first, I *always* hate the way it looks, probably because it's just different rather than it just being a bad cut.
