People from the UK don't know what real "hot weather" is. You don't get the tropical airmasses in the summer like we do. Living on the east coast or in the south with no AC in summer will make you want to shoot yourself. It's like having your body enveloped in a warm wet washcloth for weeks on end.
Yep, when it's 30C we call it a "heatwave", but when I've been abroad it's been over 40C on a normal summer day - 30C was considered cool!
35C (95F) or higher is necessary to be a true heat wave as 30C (86F) is just a typical hot summer afternoon for most places.
To me 30C (86F) is not so bad until you add tropical humidity to the mix. When it stays above 25C (77F) the whole night it gets kind of nasty with no AC.
