Definitely depending on the University's culture. Joe-schmoe cow-town universities seem to dislike my kind of weird (Which honestly doesn't matter save for senior project). :(

Unless they're ambitious weird people, in which case they move to Canberra.

Ambitious and self centered.

That's not very nice. It's self-centered to want an interesting job these days?

Bad cyberdad :shameonyou:

So seriously why would anyone want to live in Canberra? Tasmania at least has nice coastline.

Because it's cheaper than Sydney and I'll be able to get work in my field there when I finish my studies (criminology). I've never really understood the general dislike of Canberra. I find it clean and civilised, and I have friends there already. Tasmania, on the other hand, is where I intend to retire to, once I have enough time and money to sit back and appreciate nice coastlines.

You could try a hippie/anarchist commune, if there are any left. There's also the world of music and entertainment, like somebody already said. And George Orwell reckoned that tramps are normally very non-judgemental.

Maybe the quickest way is to screen out any homogenous group......people have to be able to recognise normal behaviour in the homogeneity of their group before they can notice who is odd and who isn't.

Just do as I do and gravitate towards the weirdest people you can find, and you should be OK. Though weirdness may be in the eye of the weirded-out, so just because somebody is weird, it doesn't mean that they won't see you as weird by their standards. There are so many flavours of nonconformity, and they're as different and hostile to each other as SWP and BNP.

There are lots of us who know perfectly well that it's pointless to judge anybody who isn't an actual threat to us, however strange they may seem. Unfortunately, I've never found a whole group of them....like prophets, seers and sages, they tend to be loners.

Down and out people seem to gravitate towards me. They are often very interesting. Often they have seen and experienced things in life that few undergo willingly. A lot of them seem to have a connection to the 'spiritual' that is lacking in 'normal' people.

well, in New Orleans (my hometown) I've never really seen people being ostracized for any reason really... Heck! The guy down the street that wears a pink tutu with no undies isn't particularly thought of as weird (even though, I really wish he'd buy a pair sometimes,)

I've found demonstrations and radical left wing political groups/meetings are good places to meet people last week. I don't know how tolerant they will be of me in the long term though. We shall see.

I know a lady who used to be a social worker - walking around town with her is great fun because I think she knows every hooker and hobo in the city, so it's a stream of greetings wherever she goes.

I always seem to pick up on the outliers.......I always feel a spark of hope when I discover somebody doesn't have a televison set.
