Is it possible that your report could be perceived as "self aggrandizing", or "tossing someone under the bus", possibly him? One thought, count the number of times the word "I" appears in your report.

I for one just wish communication was merely regarded as a simple means of information exchange, with no troublesome emphasis on body language. The words you hear are what you get, and all that. No nodding or smiling required. No meaningless gestures such as handshakes.

People love to talk about how words are only a small fraction of the communication process-- although I am baffled as to how such a thing could be possible. Words are where the information is located; you can hardly convey "meet me at this place at 9:00 tonight, and wear your evening dress" using only your hands and facial expressions.
