I would, but I'd have to go with friends. I don't have enough friends.

I've been to heaps and heaps of concerts and a good dozen festivals. I've seen Nightwish, Evanescence, Within Temptation and Epica live, as well as distinctly non-symphonic metal bands (Pendulum, The Prodigy, Lostprophets, Rise Against... you name it, I've seen it). The sensory overload (loud music combined with heat and so many people, etc.) is actually quite soothing. It gives me a chance to blend into a crowd for once, because nobody cares what you're wearing or whether you're autistic or not, as long as you love the band, you're welcome. If you don't like the pits (which I do, actually, nothing like burning off some aggression by jumping into like-minded people), just stand back or more towards the side. As long as you bring earplugs and stay hydrated (! !!) you should be fine.

Funny you should mention Within Temptation, btw. I used to live in the same town as the vocalist, Sharon. Spotted her at the local supermarket a couple of times with her kid, she's gorgeous!

I'd never, ever go to one of those things. It just sounds like an unbearably loud racket to me.

I went to several concerts and it was really exhausting but fun. Most people are focused on the band so you kinda blend into the crowd but there's so many people and noise and it's so distracting :P
Don't worry about metalheads though, they're really really kind. I feel much safer in a concert surrounded by people wearing black clothes, piercings and tattoos everywhere then a football match.
I need to bring one person with me though, friend/sibling/parent or I just feel so lost.

That band looks sweet, thanks for the link. Anyway, I'm not a huge metal fan anymore, but I like more like, power metal type of stuff nowadays? But I don't really listen to stuff like Pantera or Metallica anymore.

For that concert, I would find it somewhat awkward being with gothyish people, but I'm guessing the people there are probably mostly older anyway.

The most awkward concert I've been to in my life (the only other being a Monkees concert when I was like 7 with my family) was going to a "hardcore" show with my friend. There was one band, The Bronx (who at the time wasn't big at all) that was fairly decent, for being like, hardcore punk. The rest of the bands there were just horrendous. Thankfully, there was no moshing at this concert, but I just didn't understand it at all. So I played Tetris on my cellphone in the back of the concert area (it was a small show, not like a giant stadium, but basically a bar with a place for concerts.) But for that band, I'd feel pretty comfy really. I guess if I were to like the music, I can deal with whatever, but I don't happen to like "hardcore" or like, screaming punk (actually I like Atreyu a bit now, though) rock kind of music. My church has like, a rock group do worship, and I always feel a bit wtf, and it's much worse when the youth group does open mic night and they perform for open mic night, I just feel entirely confused.

I'd go to that concert though, I've regretted missing many concerts just due to money or transport concerns, so try not to put yourself in the same boat.

I am a Goth. We have some Gothic fests here and I usually go to them. Nobody cares about me, people have their friends and their problems. I go, listen to the music, watch the bands live and it's great.

I like the music, but I'm afraid of mosh pits, etc. I'll listen to my metal from the safety of a recorded version

But nobody forces you to do it. I ignore pogo dance, mosh pits, etc. I just go, watch and listen.
Btw, Goths generally don't dance pogo, their clothes are too expensive.

Ive been to one metal show (one of the few shows ive ever been too as I dont like to be around people) and it was pretty incredible. Shadows Fall, Terror, Zao and Cephalic Carnage. It was in this basement like club with low ceilings. The whole place was a mosh pit except for the few people standing on the outside of it. I was one of those few people. You had to like push the people back into the pit when they came at you in waves. I had a few bodies tossed into me and saw a few bloodied up and unconcious people being dragged out by bouncers. It was really cool because people would get punched in the head and turn around laughing and give a friendly hug or something to whoever ended up punching them. Some strange kind of comradery that was enlightening and overwhelmingly positive despite the violence of it all. I didn't pay much attention to the music cause the whole experience was just a sight to behold. We had to leave when people started knocking down ceiling tiles and pulling at the wires. I would recommend going to something like that. The energy and excitement of it all far outweighs any anxiety you might feel over being around a bunch of people
