anyone who not AS ?
I have "High Functioning" Autism.
For a long time, I thought I my diagnosis was Asperger's. But a few months ago my psychologist told me that because the DSM-IV code attached to my diagnosis is 299.00, I have Autistic Disorder (the DSM-IV code for Asperger's is 299.80).
I was confused because the neuro-psychologist who diagnosed me kept saying "Asperger's" and talking about the DSM-V (so I thought she was using the DSM-V to diagnose me with AS....I was wrong).

I have the same thing o.o I never could understand the difference between that and Aspergers

I honestly don't know whether I'm HFA or AS, and if anyone can tell me based on the rest of this post, that would be great. I was diagnosed AS, but I had a language delay until I was 4 or 5. This scares me because everyone with AS develops normally in that aspect.
I also feel that my social skills are less than those of someone with AS. The keyword there is feel. I don't really know for sure yet. I used to had friends in grade school who I would hang out with and talk to, although once I was homeschooled, they slowly went their separate ways. Now all my friends are online. In addition, I've never had much interest in posting on these forums, but maybe now I'm breaking out of my shell. Hopefully that means I'm AS and not HFA.
However, I am advanced in other aspects, such as academics. I'm making good grades in high school and am planning to get into college. I understand humor perfectly, including sarcasm and irony. I am pretty independent as well. I can take care of myself, and am going to get my driver's license soon. I don't have a job yet, though.

Personally I think that Asperger's is overdiagnosed on the expense of other ASDs, like Classic Autism (Autistic Disorder) and PDD-NOS. So, in practice, in large part AS population includes individuals who are more classically autistic but have less severe / obvious symptoms. This explains (at least partly) why the vast majority here have AS dx.
It's hard to tell about your post whether you are "HFA" or AS. Quotes because there's no official diagnosis as HFA. Language delay is only one criterion of autism that is often overemphasized. If you feel you are more HFA then AS because, for example, your language skills are relatively not as good as your other abilities, than you're probably one, regardless of your current label. However, in the new DSM-V there would be only one ASD that would include all three major (plus 2 minor) diagnoses.

Can relate. I found out that I was speech delayed until after 4 amongst other classic autistic traits like spinning for a long time, listening to the same song over and over (knew about that one because I still do), meltdowns etc..
One diagnosed me with aspergers, the other diagnosed me with autism. Was confused about that. I thought it was aspergers until I learned the differences between classic autism and aspergers. The one who diagnosed me with autism delved more into my history than the other who did not.
When hanging around aspies, I felt like my traits were more obvious.
So now I understand.
Life is so confusing.

The language delay until you were 4 or 5 means that you by definition cannot have Aspergers.
HFA, I dunno.
